<![CDATA[ Latest from Marie Claire in Fashion ]]> https://www.marieclaire.com Tue, 09 Sep 2025 09:59:28 +0000 en <![CDATA[ The Talented Teyana Taylor ]]> For close to 20 years, Teyana Taylor has commanded attention. Elder Millennials, like me, recognize the Harlem, New Yorker from her ’80s/'90s-themed birthday extravaganza, featured on My Super Sweet 16, as well as her 2018 reality TV show, Teyana & Iman, and its 2021 sequel We Got Love Teyana & Iman, filmed with ex-husband Iman Shumpert. The youngest Gen Zers first caught sight of her on the premiere of Kanye West’s “Fade” music video after the 2016 MTV VMAs when a chiseled, glistening Taylor danced across the screen for a captivating 3 minutes and 44 seconds. This past summer, Gen Alpha heralded her return to music after retiring to slack-jawed shock back in 2020, with her album Escape Room.

And this fall, the proud multi-hyphenate continues to impress all generations as she firmly enters her acting era, coming off her role as Detective Kay Raymond (a cop with a walk and a bob that took TikTok by storm) in Straw and garnering attention for her turn in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.

Her willingness to take a risk, to try something new, yet remain a humble student of the entertainment industry is why I was so honored to interview Taylor, 34, for Marie Claire’s “Nice Talk” podcast. It was an interview that managed to do the impossible: reveal yet another side of the intrepid creative and entertainer. Which is why I decided to share an edited and condensed version here.

The conversation includes details on Taylor’s forthcoming projects, the people who have influenced her career, and how the podcast’s key topics—money, power, and style—intersect in her life. Over the course of an hour, she describes herself as a “Glade PlugIn” (“Why make one room smell good when you can make the whole building smell good?”), a “lover girl” (“I am a soldier of love. I am a love warrior”), and a champion of creators (“That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do—protect creatives and pour into them”).

A month after our interview, Taylor posted an unexpected Instagram story, revealing that she’d been quietly dealing with vocal challenges and would need immediate surgery to remove a noncancerous growth on one of her vocal cords. I felt crushed for the singer, knowing just how excited she was to share her album with fans and the greater public. “It’s not lost on me, just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected ‘Escape Room’—one I didn’t ask for but now I have to find my way out of with patience, rest, and faith,” she wrote in the post.

I’m further reminded of what Taylor told me during our time together, perhaps foreshadowing what was to come: “Everything’s a gamble. You won’t know until you take that risk. I always say, the wait is not punishment, it’s preparation for what was already written.”

Before we started recording, you were telling me that Beyoncé really taught you about the power of investing yourself.

Yes, everybody knows I don’t play about B. She’s the one who would help me understand, you’re going to have to invest in yourself to get what you want. I remember just being in a space where I was trying to figure it out, and she was just encouraging me to keep going. Never be afraid to invest in yourself. You’re never going to fully get what you want unless you go and do it yourself. That always stuck with me. I wanted everything with a bubblegum-and-shoestring budget, and I would walk away with less money because I was paying more people, but I was okay with that. It hurts in the moment because it’s like, “Oh my God, I could be making so much more money.” But then to go and talk to B, and she reassures me that’s normal; that just means you’re a true creative.

No matter where I’ve ever been, whatever challenges I was going through, wherever I’ve been in my career, feeling stagnant or feeling unseen or unheard, to just hear Beyoncé tell me how proud of me she is, no matter where I am in my life and my career, really inspires me to keep going and just keep following my heart and following my gut.

I want to kick things off by talking to you about being a changemaker. What does that mean to you?

It’s never your intention to say, “I’m going to do this, that, and the third to change the world.” You’re just being you. So I think that that’s what a changemaker is: a person being themselves and really standing up for their views and what they believe in. My goal is to help people. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do: protect creatives and pour into them. And the fact that that plays a part in changing the game, I’m so grateful for that, because like I said, my goal wasn’t to come and try and change anything or anybody. My goal was to come in and show up for people in any way that I can.

I think that a key part of being a changemaker is being willing to take a risk. Are you a risk taker by nature?

Now, that’s one thing you always know I’ve been. That is what I stand on. I think that’s why everybody’s so happy that I’m back. [Retirement] was never any hard feelings, you’ve just gotta move the way you gotta move for your happiness and your mental health. And that was a risk that I was willing to take. I consider myself a Glade PlugIn. You can plug me in anywhere, baby, I’m gonna make the room smell good. But you ain’t about to have me locked in the bathroom, plugged in by the mirror. I’m going to take up every square foot of this building. Why only make one room smell good when you can make the whole building smell good? Don’t lock me in a room. Don’t lock me in a box. I need keys to multiple doors. And I can pick and choose which one I want to unlock in my own divine time.

That’s a risk, saying, “You know what? I’m going to take a break on this right now because this is not serving me. And I’m going to go over here and I’m going to be an actress, and people are going to take me serious one day as an actress, and people will take me serious as a director and a creative director.” It was scary. But everything’s a gamble. You won’t know until you take that risk. You won’t know until you drop that dead weight. I always say, the wait is not punishment, it’s preparation for what was already written.

When you say weight, do you mean W-A-I-T? Or W-E-I-G-H-T?

I mean both. For me, it’s like a double entendre. Because look at us and how far we’ve come. I’m sure from 2014 until now, it’s been a wait. Like, okay, when’s it gonna happen? When’s it gonna be my turn? When’s it gonna be my time?

And then that weight that you’re carrying, that dead weight that you’re carrying, the emotions that you’re carrying, the heart on your sleeves that you’re carrying, it’s heavy. When that’s lifted, you can make moves. You don’t have these heavy weights on you. You also don’t have these long waits.

You went on hiatus in 2020, but you’re back with Escape Room. Why now?

I love that you asked this right after us talking about the weight and the wait. I think that’s what the album shows—from heavy to light, from broken to repair, from heartbreak to healing. It’s an ombré album. The album is showing you how to get to the next space. It’s showing you the in-betweens. A lot of times with records, you hear a person being in a really hurt or dark space, And it’s just like, Damn, what happened? How’d you get there? How did you get out of it? Or you hear people that make completely just lightweighted, pure love music. And it’s like, “Well girl, let us in, sis.” This album takes you from where it started, but there’s also the in-between.

There can be a bit of messiness in the ombré too.

Exactly. I want to walk you through every single step that it takes to get to a better place, every single step it takes to get to the color that you want to get to. Every single step it takes from wet to dry. With this album, it’s like every step of vulnerability.

Where did the name for the album come from?

It’s getting from one place to another. It’s all still a process, escaping anything that doesn’t serve you.

People may automatically just assume this is about a relationship. No, baby. Whether it’s friendships, relationships, business, I’ve had my ups and downs with music. I’ve been married to music. This has been a crazy, wicked game for me. So it’s like escaping the things that just do not serve me—even if that includes myself!

Because we sometimes fall into these dark places ,and you’ve got to hold yourself accountable and say, “Girl, get up. Get out of this space. Get out of this room. Get out of this box.” You know, like I said, I’m a Glade PlugIn. When I retired, it was just me leaving one room and going into another. It’s time to plug in as a creative director. It’s time to plug in as a director. It’s time to plug in as an actress.

It was announced that you’re joining the upcoming Netflix Kevin Hart film, 72 Hours, and this fall you’ve got All’s Fair, created by Ryan Murphy, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. What has this acting journey been like for you?

That’s one thing that I can say I’m really proud of. When I was taking that risk and nobody else believed that I would make these things happen if I took that risk, that’s one thing that I get to sit here today and say, “I’m proud of that.” And did, and did, and did, and did. I said I would do it and not everybody believed that.

I’ve got these two beautiful, pure, loving souls that love me for me that I’ve got to live for. So there were no games. Motherhood was the wake-up.

A Thousand and One was the first script that I got across my desk, literally a month after I retired. Dealing with postpartum and dealing with the other things that I was dealing with, I had a plan and I had a point to prove. And I noticed, every single time I trust God and I continue to be a prayer warrior and I continue to lift whatever weight is holding me down, He shows His favor. I feel like timing is everything too. What if I was still pregnant with Rue and decided to retire? Being a mom of one, I wasn’t playing. Now being a mom of two, I’m really not playing. I’ve got these two beautiful, pure, loving souls that love me for me that I’ve got to live for. So there were no games. Motherhood was the wake-up.

What have you learned, working with the people you’ve been on set with?

It’s always a joy and a pleasure to work with Regina [Hall]. She’s helped me through a lot, and I appreciate and love her so much. I also want to just give a shout out to Sherry [Shepherd] and Taraji [P. Henson] as well, working with them on Straw. Those are my girls. It’s the sisterhood of it all—how every woman that I’ve worked with has just been there with open arms. That quiet; we’re just speaking with the hug. And the pull back from that hug, and they give you that look. It’s “You’re good. You’re good. And we got you.”

I’m curious—who’s influenced the way you move in your life, in terms of being a changemaker?

My mom, for sure. That’s where it starts. I have been and am very blessed to have so many incredible women in my life that are super hands-on. To have my mom and my incredible aunt and my nana. I am so lucky. These women have kept me levelheaded. My mom being my manager, we really came up in this industry together, conquering this wicked business. She has kept me in shape in every single way. She’s just so amazing, and she’s such a great leader.

That’s so true. You have been in this industry since you were 15 and shot to fame working with Beyoncé on Ring the Alarm, and obviously, everyone knows about My Super Sweet 16.

I want to make sure that I give flowers to all the people who have been a part of my journey. My mom and the women in my life, that’s my roots. That’s my tribe. That’s my everything. Outside of that, having an opportunity to work with Beyoncé and getting signed to Pharrell and getting signed to Kanye, these guys shaped a lot of my creativity. I’m lucky. I come from prayer warriors, and then to get to be in the hands of the most creative people in the world. I’ve had it good.

How has your perspective on what it means to be in the public eye changed over the years?

One thing about me is, I’ve always been very, very, shy and private. People may think, Oh, well, you had a TV show, but that just means you’re going to see what you’re going to see, but it doesn’t take away the private person that I am. I show you what I choose to show you. I take my private life very seriously. My whole life being on Front Street, that’s what comes with the territory. That’s what comes with being in this business, and the most we can do is navigate our privacy as best as we can. I’m fine for you to be in whatever part of the business that I choose to share, but I don’t want you in my business.

I saw an interview where you called yourself a lover girl. Tell me about how you find power in being a lover girl. Some people may say that being a romantic means that you’re weak.

Or call you a simp. But no, that’s not that. And those are people—that’s their guilt, their own issue. That’s a them problem. I’ve noticed that people who will make fun of lovers are people who don’t have the ability to love at the full capacity, and they’re jealous of that. You know the quote “Good girls finish last”? No, good girls finish on their own divine time. Like, I’m going to take my time. And I’m gonna properly love and I’m gonna be a lover girl and I’m gonna be a simp, whatever comes with that. I love to love. People that don’t have emotional intelligence make fun of lovers. I am a soldier of love. I am a love warrior. I am a lover girl and I love everything about it and I’m okay with that. One thing nobody could ever take away from me is the love that I give. Never ever be ashamed of being a lover girl. I think lovers are the most emotionally intelligent.

I may be a teacher to others, but I’m always still a student. No one is ever above learning.

I think that that will help people reframe a lot of their thoughts on either being a lover or a hater.

That’s why I’m excited about Escape Room—because I feel like even though there are the ones who make fun of it, everybody is low-key lovers. It’s just not the cool thing to do because we’re in a prideful and very egocentric time of music right now. But what I want is to create a safe space for women to be able to love again and to create that safe space for men to be gentle and to be lovers because they want to feel protected too. This album opens up that dialogue.

You’ve done so much in your career. Is there one space where you feel the most powerful?

I feel most in my power when I’m empowering and uplifting others, so being a creative director, showing up for people, pouring into people, pouring into creators, letting them know more is more—and that your ambition will never be too much. Your ambition will never be impossible to execute. I feel the most powerful pouring into others.

What was your relationship to mentorship back when you were just coming up and how has that impacted the way that you’ve mentored others?

See, it may be a little bit different now, because the young’uns coming up are stuck in their own ways. Our generation was really willing to be students. I looked at the Beyoncés, the Kanyes, the Pharrells, and I just wanted to soak up knowledge. I was always ready to learn. Even to this day, I’m always willing to be a student, no matter how much I pour into others. I may be a teacher to others, but I’m always still a student. No one is ever above learning. That was another thing that I took with me from working with Beyoncé and being able to walk into that room and teach her the Chicken Noodle Soup dance when I was just a 15-year-old girl from Harlem. She’s in it. She’s not laughing. She’s like, “Okay, cool. Now show me how I do this.” She’s not like, “Why does a little girl keep doing all these moves?” Even with Kanye and Pharrell, even though I was signed to them, they also valued my opinions.

What’s the best piece of advice that anyone has ever given you about your career or longevity in the entertainment space?

Don’t take none of this shit personally—from my mom, who was very, very clear. I got it a few more times also throughout the business, but at a young age of 15, you’re trying to figure it out and you pour so much into people and when it’s not reciprocated, your feelings are hurt. But it’s like, pick your head up, adjust your crown. Don’t take none of this shit personally. Business is business.

You recently dropped that you’re making another change and going to culinary school!

I’m so excited. Like, literally as soon as we get off this interview, I’m going straight to class. I’m putting on my coat, my uniform, and I’m getting to it. It’s always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to cook. It’s been very therapeutic for me. And again, I’m just showing up for myself. You know, I don’t have the time to do it, but I have the time to show up for me. That’s what I want to show people. Even if you don’t have the time, find time to show up for you. It’s “work” in the best way because it’s something that you’re doing for you. It’s a passion that you’re turning into purpose.

To see the comments on Instagram when you posted it. Ayo Edeberi of The Bear said, “Yes, chef!”

Yes! My God, I was so excited about that. I love my girl Ayo. Seeing that comment was really, really, really dope. And to see how many people it inspired—you know, like, I love to show the world that.

Let’s talk about fashion because I know that you are a lover of style. Your Met Gala look was so major. What was it like to work with Ruthie Carter on that look?

Teyana Taylor staring at the camera with a black jacket around her lower arms

Honestly, I am very humble and I’m very modest when it comes to speaking about myself. But like, when you get to work with the Ruth E. Carter, if you thought for one second, I thought that outfit was going to be anything less than amazing. Like, baby, if I wasn’t invited to the Met, I was sneaking on that carpet and I was getting Best Dressed. When you’re working with the Ruth E. Carter, to understand the amount of love and detail that went into that, you already should have known that Ruth was going to come through. Every bit of praise that we’ve received is exactly how it was supposed to be. And now I say that with all cockiness.

And you’re going to have so many red carpet moments coming up. Your fall is stacked.

My God, my fall is amazing. I’m working with some designers, but also I’m working on original pieces that I’m going to design. Let’s just see where that takes me, because maybe that can be the start of my own actual line.

This interview has been edited and condensed.

<![CDATA[ Brittany Snow Brings 'The Hunting Wives' "Very Texas" Style to the 2025 MTV VMAs ]]> This is The Close-Up, where the biggest names in entertainment explain the story behind their latest personal style statement.

On the Netflix honky-tonk thriller The Hunting Wives, Brittany Snow's character doesn't have much time to think about her outfits. She plays Sophie, a Boston mom thrown into the heart of a deep Texas social circle. Her Birkenstocks and sensible shirts stand out among a sea of Tecovas cowboy boots and extra-large belt buckles.

Sophie ends up a little too preoccupied with solving a murder within her newfound frenemy group to think about what she's wearing. Snow, on the other hand, wouldn't have minded a yeehaw makeover montage.

"I think throughout the entire show, I was pretty jealous of the other girls getting to wear those Texas numbers," Snow tells me as she's getting ready for the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet. "I always looking at the girls every day being like, oh my God, how fun to wear such loud, brash outfits."

For her first time attending the VMAs, Snow and her stylist, Yael Quint, decided it was the right moment to embrace the series' over-the-top styling.

"We wanted her look to be classic and timeless," Quint says in an email. On the phone, Snow describes her custom Monot dress as "'90s glam, but a little more spicy and sexy." The gilded strapless dress coated in gold is her ode to her show's Texas setting, as well as her character's on-screen entanglement with the girl group's ringleader, Margo, played by Malin Akerman.

A few days before the VMAs, Snow and Quint were choosing between two sequin dresses: the gold one she ultimately picked, or a pink option by another designer. Then Akerman showed Snow her silver gown by Raissa Vanessa, and it was decided. "We thought to ourselves, it has to be the gold one because it's just gonna look so fun that we're playing off of each other," Snow explains, "not only on the show, but on the carpet."

There aren't many chances to do that with your friends, and I think that's why we chose this one," Snow says of coordinating with Akerman. "It's also the better look, I think." Quint amped up its glam quotient with Betzabe heels and Dorsey earrings sourced from the jewelry brand's new collection.

The 2025 VMAs would be Snow and Akerman's second consecutive event together that weekend. They had both attended the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles the night before, in contrasting dresses: Snow in a mint green, scallop-neckline sheath, and Akerman in a gold-and-black two-piece.

Jetting from coast to coast as a team made the whole weekend more invigorating than exhausting for Snow. In real life, their friendship is much healthier than their on-screen counterparts. "Thank goodness Malin was with me, because we sort of made it fun," she says. "I brought these Korean face masks we did on the plane. We had glasses of champagne, and we were debriefing the Creative Emmys we presented at, and we were excited for the VMAs. That just made it so much smoother, because we haven't actually been in the same place in a while."

Snow and Ackerman's chemistry led to attention on and off the red carpet this summer. The Hunting Wives had the highest streaming time of any series during its premiere week, per The Hollywood Reporter. Still, Snow admits she "didn't think anyone would even see it." Its debut in July also didn't include a dedicated red carpet. So, while the VMAs gave Snow a front-row seat to major performances (like Sabrina Carpenter's) and her childhood favorites (like Ricky Martin), it was also her moment to celebrate a project she hadn't yet had a chance to toast.

Her summary of the getting-ready process could be a synopsis of The Hunting Wives' highly anticipated second season. "There's lots of gold, there's lots of secrets, there's lots of hair," Snow says. "It does feel very Texas in here."

<![CDATA[ The Best-Dressed Stars at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival Are the Fashion Month Warm-Up I Needed ]]> Before Fashion Month finally kicks off in New York City on September 11, there's one more major red carpet event to take in: the Toronto International Film Festival. Some years, Toronto gets overlooked between the glitzy boat rides of the Venice Film Festival, the textbook memorable outfits at the MTV VMAs, and all the A-list sightings in the front rows from NYC to Paris. But this year, I've found the Toronto International Film Festival's best-dressed stars to have some of the most noteworthy interpretations of the very same designers fashion people will be discussing in a few days' time.

In Venice, labels including Dior, Chanel, and Versace soft-launched their incoming creative directors' new visions—and new ambassadors. Some of that same thread was picked up across the Atlantic, as Anya Taylor-Joy arrived in her own custom Dior moment by Jonathan Anderson and at least two names tried on Alessandro Michele's new-ish Valentino for size. I've also noticed an uptick in labels from the halls of London Fashion Week (like Erdem, chosen by Sydney Sweeney) and some copy-pastes from Paris staples (like Saint Laurent, picked by Tessa Thompson).

So far, the best-dressed stars at the Toronto International Film Festival are celebrating their upcoming projects in names that everyone will be talking about this month. I can think of no better warm-up for the international runway circuit than this refresher on luxury's favorite clients and their red carpet staples.

Anyone worried that Anya Taylor-Joy's streak as a Dior muse would end with a new creative director can rest easy now. The star arrived at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in a custom look by Jonathan Anderson that picked up where his debuts in Venice left off. A quintessentially Dior shade of baby blue transformed from an elegant sheath shape up top to a skirt extending away from Taylor-Joy's body, composed of several interwoven ribbons. As one of the potentially final glimpses at Anderson's womenswear before his runway debut in Paris, it was a gift to behold.

Maude Apatow's first Toronto International Film Festival as a director was always going to feel special. But for the premiere of Poetic License, she and stylist Mimi Cuttrell decided on an agenda-setting look by Alessandro Michele's Valentino. The cheery pink satin and feather-dusted cape said the rising star can have her serious career milestone and have fun, too.

Tessa Thompson wearing Saint Laurent

I had a hard time choosing my favorite of Tessa Thompson's Toronto International Film Festival looks. A runway Chanel strapless dress—complete with pockets—definitely surprised me with its elegant practicality. But I ultimately had to choose the actress's funnel-neck mini from Saint Laurent's Fall 2025 runway. Stylist Karla Welch delivered an off-the-catwalk moment to remember, between the rich shade of red, the sharp-as-knives heels, and the nod to one of Paris Fashion Week's most anticipated collections.

Elizabeth Olsen wearing Emilia Wickstead

There's more to Elizabeth Olsen's Emilia Wickstead Fall 2025 gown than meets the eye. The London Fashion Week standout's sequin-coated gown has slightly off-kilter shoulders and an entirely open back—which Olsen made sure to emphasize on the step-and-repeat. This is the sort of black dress that's understated, but still eye-catching with its all-over sequins.

Angelina Jolie wearing Gabriela Hearst

Angelina Jolie and Gabriela Hearst are one of the red carpet's most enduring duos. The actress kept their spirit of collaboration alive on the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival red carpet, when she styled one of the label's longline trench coats as a fall dress. A flash of semi-sheer tights and a pointed-toe pump transformed her outerwear from another seasonal layer to a photo-worthy moment.

Nia DaCosta wearing Zimmermann

The average fashion-phile might think of Zimmermann mostly as a destination for ruffled floral dresses and Katie Holmes-approved trenches. But as Nia DaCosta reminded me at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Hedda, the brand is just as skilled at understated boho pieces. Her cream turtleneck dress only needed its billowing, cape-like sleeves to make a statement—and make me excited for Zimmermann's upcoming runway in Paris.

Shailene Woodley wearing Dolce & Gabbana

Shailene Woodley started her fall mini dress streak at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, in a Kallmeyer LBD Zoë Kravitz also owns. She kept the party dressing energy up at the Venice International Film Festival, where stylist Alexandra Imgruth sourced a sparkling Fall 2025 Dolce & Gabbana mini. The dress was styled with a punk-rock bralette and knee-high boots on the runway, but Woodley opted for more work-appropriate pumps—and an opaque liner—for her premiere.

Valentino's red carpet sweep continued when Samantha McMillen and Kirsten Dunst sourced this cut-out Resort 2026 gown for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere for Roofman. Delicate Sophie Bille Brahe jewelry perfectly complemented the softness of the gown's gauzy-like fabric and trains off each arm.

Sydney Sweeney and stylist Molly Dickson contrasted the rough-and-tumble nature of the actress's boxing biopic, Christy, with a princess-like custom gown by Erdem. Designer Erdem Moralioglu, a reliable favorite on the London Fashion Week calendar, combined Sweeney's penchant for red carpet corsets with a dramatic draped skirt that cascaded from her left hip. Her film is already generating some Oscars buzz—and this is the sort of dress that can help her campaign for the ultimate leading lady trophy.

<![CDATA[ Selena Gomez's Classic White Sneakers Trade Places With Her Trendy Adidas ]]> Selena Gomez was nominated for two Moon Person trophies at the 2025 MTV VMAs, but unlike Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, she RSVP-ed "maybe next year."

Instead, Gomez was spotted on the opposite coast, boarding a flight out of LAX. She swapped sky-high heels for chunky white sneakers, any A-lister's preferred airport shoes. Similar to the Adidas Superstars in Jennifer Lawrence's closet, Gomez's trainers featured leather uppers and rubber platform soles. The ultra-wide lens makes them tricky to ID from afar. Judging by their black heel tabs and monogrammed laces, I suspect they're a vintage $405 pair from Chanel.

Comfort was clearly the driving force behind Gomez's travel-friendly 'fit, as it should be for any frequent flyer. She paired wide-leg sweatpants with an equally-oversize Free People jean jacket. Its light-wash shade felt quite unexpected for Gomez, given fall's rising indigo denim trend. Prada's Galleria bag, a top-handle tote in Saffiano leather, acted as her small but mighty carry-on.

These white sneakers appear to be a new addition to Gomez's rotation. However, you may recognize her denim jacket from a recent Instagram post. On Sept. 1, the "Who Says" singer confirmed the baggy jacket landed in her vacation suitcase. Instead of her latest shoes, she pulled off the brown sneaker trend with $110 Adidas Spezials. They had all the makings of Adidas Sambas, except with extra-heightened gum-soles.

At this point, Gomez has her in-flight fashion down to a science, starting with ultra-cozy shoes. Last month, she gave Ugg slippers a go while en route to her bachelorette trip in Cabo. White sneakers felt slightly more elevated for the comfort-first star, but even so, right up her minimalist alley.

<![CDATA[ The Street Style Trends Dividing Fashion Girls This NYFW ]]> Not much surprises me anymore after working in fashion for almost a decade. Latex dresses that look like you just took a dip in the pool? Normal. Fur-covered loafer mules? Standard street style! So, it’s no shock that I’m already on board with fall 2025’s most controversial fashion trends. Not only are they surprisingly chic, but I’m already brainstorming ways to incorporate them into my typically non-controversial style.

If you've been paying attention to the fashion cycle, it's easy to track the life cycles of these trends and to identify their origins. Fall's continued boho influence created the balloon pant trend. Bead-style necklaces emerged as a jewelry trend alongside ever-popular cowboy boots, and now the two have merged to revive the bolo tie. Even pre-layered tops and the dresses-over-pants look are back from the early aughts graveyard, serving as the perfect excuse to make even your most basic T-shirts, tank tops, and summer dresses feel new after months of everyday wear.

Trust me—there is something on this list for everyone. Even the minimalists amongst us can get behind incorporating a sleek glove boot into their fall shoe rotation, right? Ahead, get enough inspiration to test the waters.

Balloon Pants

Tired of your summer linen pants? Try a pair of balloon pants this fall. Fashion girls have already embraced the look in Copenhagen, so it was only a matter of time before it made its way to America.

Pre-Layered Pieces

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - AUGUST 04: A guest wears oversized dark sunglasses and large hoop earrings. The hair is styled straight and loose. A brown suede jacket is draped over the shoulders. Underneath, a black tank top is layered over a white sleeveless top. The jeans are light blue with a faded wash and a flared cut. A black belt with silver studs is worn at the waist. The bag is black leather with a slouchy shape. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Pre-layered tops eliminate the hassle of layering your tops. They're the perfect example of one-and-done shopping. My favorites include a cashmere sweater from J.Crew that will instantly refresh my knitwear rotation and a piece from Zara that features not one, but three lightweight layers.

Bolo Ties

Marie Gaguech wears brown pants, white shirt, metal accessory tie, brown leather coat with fur collar outside The Paco Rabanne show during Womenswear Spring/Summer 2025 as part of Paris Fashion Week on September 25, 2024 in Paris, France.

I was a latecomer to the bead necklace trend and have spent much of the last week searching for my perfect piece. Along that journey, however, I noticed a new trend emerging: bolo ties. This is the under-the-radar trend I predict will be everywhere this season at New York Fashion Week, so get ahead of it now.

Glove Boots

Put away your 2010s-era sock boots and invest in their cooler older sister, the leather glove boot. Fashion features editor Emma Childs has already named them one of her top fall boot styles to buy. Characterized by their micro-heel and ultra-snug fit around the ankle and calf, these are just edgy enough to spice up your wardrobe without going over the top.

Sneaker Mules

Woman wearing Miu Miu sneaker wedges

As part of my job, I monitor the biggest sneaker trends of the year, so I've been thinking about sneaker mules for months. Finally, there's a shoe perfectly designed for when you're rushing out the door but still want to look cool.

Dresses Over Pants

If you were a tween between 2004 and 2008, you probably look back on the dresses-over-pants trend with a mix of cringe and nostalgic longing. It's officially back for 2025, but without the Libby Lu "more is more" styling vibe. Instead, choose simple silhouettes like summer's smocked dresses or lacy slips and pair them with classic denim washes for a cool-girl approved look.

<![CDATA[ The Best 2025 MTV VMAs After-Party Fashion Spotlights One Lingerie-Inspired Look After Another ]]> For me, the 2025 MTV VMAs ended once Ariana Grande accepted the final Moon Person trophy. I needed my beauty sleep: Sabrina Carpenter's Bob Mackie after-party look required my attention this morning. For celebrity guests, on the other hand, the night was still young.

The VIP section inside New York's UBS Arena went from star-studded to vacant in mere minutes. Cars waited outside the Long Island venue to usher Carpenter, Ice Spice, Tate McRae, and more to various after-parties. The evening's hottest ticket was undeniably Carpenter's Studio54-themed bash. The "Espresso" singer's risqué aesthetic incited stars to style lingerie-as-outerwear, starting with Ice Spice.

The "Deli" rapper was photographed outside the Crane Club in Chelsea, wearing the bloomer trend and a coordinating corset. McRae arrived shortly after Ice Spice in her own Carpenter-coded underwear. She layered a halter-neck two-piece underneath a mesh bodysuit. It was entirely sheer, except for hot pants and a criss-cross wrap.

In true award season fashion, Carpenter's event wasn't the only after-hours affair in the city. Ahead, Marie Claire rolled out the red carpet for the best lingerie-inspired after-party looks following the 2025 MTV VMAs.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter's Studio54-ready dress deserved its own 400-word thesis, but I'll applaud it here, too. The hostest-with-the-mostest got her hands on an almost 50-year-old Bob Mackie bodysuit, fringed with grosgrain ribbons and mirrored discs.

Cher debuted the halter-neck design during a 1975 The Cher Show episode, alongside Tina Turner, no less. Both icons sang "Shame Shame Shame" in halter-neck bodysuits, which shimmered just as much as any disco ball.

Cardi B

The "I Like It" rapper was noticeably absent from the ceremony's red carpet. Turns out, she saved her underwear-as-outerwear for the after-hours scene. Stylist Kollin Carter dressed Cardi B in a leopard-print long-sleeve dress with a plunging neckline. Its hip-high slit revealed her saucy stockings, which stopped just above each knee.

Ice Spice

Ice Spice was in a corset-y mood this MTV VMAs. For the Sabrina54 soirée, she ditched her vintage Ralph Lauren set for another two-piece, this time in lavender. (You can thank her new stylist, Timothy Luke Garcia, for both throwback numbers.) Her strapless top had all the makings of a classic bustier, plus an outstretched neckline. A thin, monochromatic belt cinched her waist.

To finish, ruched bloomer shorts peeked out from underneath the corset. It embodied the pajama side of lingerie dressing.

Tate McRae

You might've expected McRae to head straight home after her choreographed performance of "Sports Car." Instead, she hit up Carpenter's party in a sheer turtleneck and matching tights. A criss-cross wrap top and hot pants acted as her only opaque pieces.

Olandria Carthen

The Love Island USA Season 7 star proved she's one to watch on the fashion front, too. Before a Chez Margaux get-together in the Meatpacking district, photographers captured Olandria Carthen's black lingerie dress in all its rhinestone-embellished glory.

It was partially transparent to match her over-the-knee stockings, also in black. Once again, she worked with styling duo Matthew and Reginald Reisman—the same team behind her Cheney Chan red carpet gown.

Rosalía

Similar to Cardi B, Rosalía joined the VMAs festivities once the ceremony ended. She met up with Ice Spice and McRae at Sabrina54 in stark white lingerie, which peeked through her chainmail long-sleeve mini.

<![CDATA[ 3 Fashion Week-Worthy Outfits Anyone Can Copy ]]> Friends! I’m back! Did you miss me? Now that my time off has come to an end —and the temperatures have dropped in New York City—I’ve got fall dressing on my mind. Specifically, what I’m going to wear for a very busy September. Over the next three weeks, I’ll be: co-hosting a New York Fashion Week dinner; accepting my Editor of the Year Award at Harlem’s Fashion Row; hosting our first ever two-day Power Play conference; and, oh yeah, attending many fashion shows. As the kids on TikTok say, I’ll be throwing ’fits.

When I know I’ve got a big month of outfits ahead, my favorite thing to do is go back to my photo archive for inspiration. I find photos of my tried and true outfit formulas, and then I give them a seasonal update. I highly recommend trying it yourself.

FOR FANCY DINNERS

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but there’s very little I love more than an evening top. A party blouse. A going-out shirt that says, “HEY! I’m here to celebrate!” I’m a millennial, sue me! I’ll pair one with black trousers and heels, and I’m out the door in a snap.

FOR NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Nikki Ogunnaike

During fashion week, I like to take advantage of the fact that I can get around on foot. My outfits are generally a little more casual and my heels are never too high. I’ll save the dressier looks for the Paris shows in October.

FOR POWER PLAY

Striking the perfect balance for two days of networking can be tricky. I never want to feel too formal, but I do want to look work-appropriate and maybe a tad bit dressier than my day-to-day. That usually results in deconstructed suiting and an interesting shirt.

<![CDATA[ Dress-Over-Pants Is the Coolest Fall Outfit Formula ]]> Crisp fall temperatures invite endless opportunities to layer autumn staples like sturdy barn jackets, sumptuous sweaters, and tailored trench coats. And while I’m looking forward to doing just that, I’m even more intrigued by a layering trend that feels a little less expected. Enter the Y2K-era dress-over-pants look—already sweeping through fashion’s inner circle this season, led by none other than one of the industry’s ultimate tastemakers: The Row.

Meanwhile, Marie Claire’s senior news editor, Halie LeSavage, has noticed the controversial trend during her recent visits to Copenhagen Fashion Week. “Every time I touch down in Copenhagen, I see stylish women layering dresses over loose trousers or wide-leg jeans,” she says. “Sometimes they contrast ripped-up denim with a flouncy Cecilie Bahnsen dress, and other times they double-up on Scandi minimalism with a neutral T-shirt smock and coordinating pants.”

LeSavage tells me that she’s tempted to try the retro look for herself, and honestly, I’m right there with her. I'm also drawing inspiration from Ganni’s Fall 2025 runway show, which featured a floral knit dress paired with billowing jeans, and taking notes from street style, where savvy city residents have mastered the art of pairing frilly lace frocks with streamlined slacks.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of wearing dresses over pants, scroll on. Ahead, you’ll discover an edit of 10 outfit formulas that feel more timeless than trendy. Not to mention, they’re surprisingly easy to assemble.

Autumn Hues

Now is the ideal time to try out fall’s brown and denim color combo. Think about a tiered mini dress in a deep mocha mousse shade, and complete your look with a matching jacket, cuffed jeans, a white T-shirt, and shiny ankle boots.

Double Denim

If you don’t want to go totally sheer, layer a lingerie-inspired dress over tailored trousers and a plain top. It’s an outfit that feels sultry yet sophisticated.

Sweater Weather

For fall days that feel more like winter, opt for a cozy sweater dress and long bottoms to keep you warm. Paired with cushioned ballet flats and a functional tote, this casual look is ideal for on-the-go moments.

Seeing Green

According to fashion stylist Sophie Lopez, no fall wardrobe is complete without a touch of brown and green. For styling the popular color combo, take cues from the showgoer in the picture above and add some white pants into the look.

Go Monochrome

<![CDATA[ Sabrina Carpenter Hosts Her 2025 MTV VMAs After-Party in Cher's Exact Bob Mackie Bodysuit ]]> The 2025 MTV VMAs were every bit The Sabrina Show. Sabrina Carpenter went viral a handful of times last night: first for her Valentino-clad red carpet walk, then for singing in the rain à la Britney Spears.

The Sabrina Show stretched to the after-party circuit, too. Once the lights lifted inside New York's UBS Arena, celebrities boogied to Crane Club in Chelsea. A disco-dressed Carpenter awaited the arrivals of Tate McRae, Ice Spice, and more for Sabrina54, a Gen Z-ified take on the iconic '70s club, Studio54. The drag queens from Carpenter's "Tears" performance also RSVP-ed yes to the retro-looking bash. RuPaul's Drag Race Season 4 contestant, Willam, shared a sneak peek at Carpenter's soirée, plus her on-theme outfit.

The evening's host looked straight out of the infamous venue in circa-1975 Bob Mackie. Originally, Mackie had created the halter-neck bodysuit for Cher's The Cher Show performance with Tina Turner. It looked good as new on Carpenter, from fringed pink and blue panels to cascading mirror appliqués. Tens of circular mirrors covered the entire almost 50-year-old design.

Carpenter and stylist Jared Ellner have always fancied a vintage find, whether it be Chantal Thomass lingerie or Karl Lagerfeld-era Chanel. For the 2024 VMAs red carpet, they sourced one of Madonna's vintage sequin Bob Mackie dresses in a special homage. But wearing Cher's exact Bob Mackie? That's a sartorial feat worthy of an honorary Moon Person. You may recognize Carpenter's disco-ready dress from a The Cher Show highlight: Cher and Turner's "Shame Shame Shame" duet, which premiered in April 1975.

Both icons wore custom Bob Mackie one-pieces, lined with grosgrain ribbons and mirrored discs. The asymmetrical car wash skirts electrified the already-dynamic performance, revealing their legs with each twirl.

Fast forward to 2018, and Cher and Turner's bodysuits-turned-dresses appeared at a Beverly Hills auction, which spotlighted custom designs from the '70s and beyond. After 11 bids, Cher's Bob Mackie sold for $6,400, in all its disco ball-ish glory. Turner's slightly shorter style retailed for $8,960, following just four bids.

At just 26 years old, Carpenter is cementing herself as one of my generation's greats. Her red carpet fashion is always memorable—as evidenced by her stellar homage to Cher. If you add her singing, dancing, and songwriting skills to the mix, she's a coupé away from icon status.

<![CDATA[ Laufey Proves Her Personal Style Is "Open to Anything" in Everlane's Fall 2025 Campaign ]]> Singer-songwriter Laufey’s personal style has an enduring appeal that matches her jazz-pop melodies. Whether she’s wearing a vintage-inspired dress or a humble pair of kitten heels, the Grammy award-winning artist champions classic pieces with a coquette-core twist. “I’ve never worried too much about trends,” the chart-topper tells Marie Claire. “I’ve always worn whatever makes me feel the most powerful."

Naturally, Laufey was the first call to front Everlane’s debut celebrity fall campaign. Developed by creative producer Junia Lin and shot by photographer Sam Cannon, Everlane’s Fall 2025 campaign, “Laufey in Everland,” finds the singer wandering into a miniature city through a portal behind her closet. As she explores the dreamscape filled with skyscrapers, farmers' markets, and of course, an Everlane store, Laufey wears a range of the brand's new autumn staples. The soundtrack? “Lover Girl,” from her album A Matter of Time.

From a twill blazer styled with sheer socks and retro flats to a button-down paired with a silk slip skirt and a cashmere handkerchief, Laufey’s outfits strike the perfect balance between minimalism and self-expression. They also let her expand her horizons without veering too far from her style pillars: "Whether it’s high- or low-rise, wide-leg or tapered—I’m open to anything, and Everlane helps me to lean into that freedom," she says.

Beyond the fanciful realm of Everland, Laufey plans to style the brand’s fresh fall essentials for real-world plans. “The silky champagne dress is one I could see myself wearing onstage, perhaps paired with a bow,” she says. Once temperatures begin to drop, she’ll also team one of the snug cardigans with floor-sweeping trousers and heeled boots.

The campaign styling isn't too far off from how Laufey shops at Everlane in real life. Before there were any talks to spin her music into a campaign, she was shopping the its sleek loafers and crewneck sweaters.

"My first experience with Everlane was years ago, right after I moved to Washington D.C.," she says. "I remember walking around and hearing so many girls talking about how the brand had the best knits and jeans."

If the singer wants to restock any of her investment-worthy styles, she might wear her own designs next. On Tuesday, September 30, Everlane will drop an exclusive capsule collection in partnership with Laufey. The lineup—featuring cozy must-haves like fleeces, sweatpants, and T-shirts—will benefit The Laufey Foundation, a nonprofit organization striving to make orchestral programs more accessible to young musicians.

Between Everlane’s Fall 2025 collection and Laufey's co-designed collection, there are endless ways to dream up an everlasting wardrobe—and dress to the rhythm of your own style.

<![CDATA[ Sabrina Carpenter's 2025 MTV VMAs Performance Outfit Change Would Make Britney Spears Proud ]]> Sabrina Carpenter's fans are sufficiently spoiled. After releasing two albums back-to-back, she returned to the 2025 MTV VMAs—not just on the red carpet, but for a center-stage performance, too.

Stylist Jared Ellner had his work cut out for him. Sabrina Carpenter required not one, but two designer looks this evening. Since the Grammy winner arrived at New York's UBS Arena an hour before showtime, she had plenty of time to swap her custom Valentino naked dress for an on-theme costume.

Carpenter synced her performance grand entrance to the first strings chord in "Tears." The second Man's Best Friend record went viral for its '80s disco-inspired instrumentals, so Carpenter followed suit on the fashion front. She emerged out of a literal manhole wearing a long-sleeve off-the-shoulder top covered in rhinestone fringe. It mimicked the custom Victoria's Secret one-piece she wore in the "Tears" music video, which paid homage to a 2003 Naomi Campbell look.

The MTV VMAs is famously a quick-change-friendly zone (see Lady Gaga's "Applause" performance in 2013). Half-way through the disco track, Carpenter followed Gaga's lead, ditching her first fringed top for a more risqué version. An entire halter-neck bra was covered in rhinestones, stretching from balconette cups onto under-bust rhinestone drapery. She even swapped out her skirt for semi-sheer tights and underwear worn as pants.

To literalize some of her "Tears" lyrics, she channeled her inner Britney Spears under a rainstorm. The award-worthy moment reminded Marie Claire editors of Spears's "Baby One More Time" performance on her 2001 Within a Dream tour. For a quick recap: Carpenter's fellow blonde wore a strikingly similar bra and hot pants combo as rain poured down.

Carpenter's fans knew her performance would leave quite an impression. They flooded VMAs's comment section with excitement for weeks. "Oh boy, I can‘t wait to see Sabrina!" one fan wrote, obviously referencing the spoken intro of "Manchild."

Last year, Carpenter set a high bar for herself, singing "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso" in one five-minute slot. "Please Please Please" began with Carpenter suspended in mid-air, wearing a custom crystal-covered bodysuit from Victoria's Secret. Even her Christian Louboutin Mary Janes sparkled with hundreds of Swarovski rhinestones.

After a quick makeout session with an alien, Carpenter ditched a high-neck bodice, revealing her plunging sweetheart neckline. Turns out, an eye-catching pendant necklace was hidden beneath the extra fabric. Its ruby gemstone matched the kiss marks atop her tights and hips.

To no surprise, she belted her heart out. (Image credit: Getty Images)

In 2024, Carpenter was new to the VMAs stage, having only been nominated once for "Espresso." Since then, however, her award show performances have only gotten bolder. In February 2025, she took center stage at the Grammy Awards, before winning her first trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Carpenter sang "Please Please Please" and "Espresso" half-way through the broadcast, blending physical comedy and innuendos with ease. First, the spotlight found her in a sequin tuxedo dress custom-made for her by Dolce & Gabbana. It wasn't inherently saucy, but it was nostalgic—the other, more family-friendly side of Carpenter's trademark aesthetic. Similar to her VMAs performance look, she paired the costume with sparkly red-bottom Mary Janes.

Before breaking into the catchy chorus, Carpenter stripped down to a baby blue corset, also with Dolce & Gabbana tags. The pastel shade is one of her signature shades, inspired by her love of '60s-era fashion and music.

Once again, she went with a strapless bodysuit, featuring monochrome gemstones in place of boning. Looking every bit a Showgirl, she layered a feather-embellished shawl overtop. Maybe Taylor Swift will borrow it come Oct. 3.

Carpenter is collecting award-worthy performances looks like infinity stones. If I'm lucky, she'll secure an on-stage slot at the 2026 Grammys.

<![CDATA[ Lady Gaga Brings Mayhem Ball to the 2025 MTV VMAs in a Gothic Marc Jacobs Dress and Floral Headdress ]]> The MTV Video Music Awards has played host to many a historic fashion moment throughout its 41 years on the air—many at the hands of Lady Gaga.

The pop star has been attending the fabled award show since the release of her first album The Fame, which earned her the title of Best New Artist in 2009. The following year, Gaga accepted the award for Video of the Year, simultaneously debuting what many recognize as her most infamous outfit of all time: the reviled meat dress. And though her 2025 VMAs outfit wasn't nearly as shocking, it certainly will go down in her own personal hall of fame.

Though Gaga has the most nominations of any star this evening, she chose to skip the VMAs red carpet all together. This is likely because the star accidentally double-booked herself for Sunday night's show. She is also hosting a sold-out performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden the very same night.

The pop star delayed the performance an hour in order to accept her Artist of the Year award in person on the VMAs stage—and did so wearing a Marc Jacobs dress that very well could have come straight out of her Mayhem Ball wardrobe.

She wore an 1800s-inspired confection covered in black ruffles. The plumed gown—a Marc Jacobs Fall 2025 creation—was made all the more dramatic by a matching rose-topped headpiece, which sat atop her blunt bangs. The blood-red floral blooms are likewise the centerpiece of her tour wardrobe, all styled by Hunter Clem.

Lady Gaga holds a grand total of 12 Moon Person nominations this evening. Categories include: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Album, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects. If she secures any more, her Mayhem Ball performance very well may need to be delayed indefinitely.

<![CDATA[ Ice Spice Goes Vintage in a Ralph Lauren Corset Set on the 2025 MTV VMAs Red Carpet ]]> The 2025 MTV VMAs are noticeably Taylor Swift-less, but her close friend, Ice Spice, is holding down the fashion fort.

Mere minutes before the red carpet circuit closed, the rapper arrived in an unexpected two-piece. Instead of competing for a Moon Person trophy, she's here to present one. Stylist Timothy Luke Garcia got his hands on Look 50 from Ralph Lauren's Spring 2003 collection for Ice Spice. The 22-year-old's skirt set looked good as new, from the Victorian era-inspired corset to the bustled maxi skirt.

Ice Spice has an eye for vintage pieces, especially from the early 2000s. Her navy patchwork skirt was Y2K personified. It blended indigo denim and plaid patches with ease, two rising trends for Fall 2025.

The cherry on top of Ice Spice's early-aughts cake was a Pamela Anderson-ish messy bun. Her signature curly afro had the night off, taken over by a peachy updo. Bangs and face-framing pieces gave her that effortless '90s flair Anderson is still known for.

Swift has attended the annual award show ten times, taking home 30 Moon Person statues since 2009. Ice Spice, on the other hand, is still a freshman. However, having a veteran like Swift in her inner circle is an award-worthy feat in itself.

The "Deli" artist made her VMAs debut in 2023, wearing custom Dolce & Gabbana. Always on board for a Y2K moment, her previous stylist helped Ice Spice pay homage to Britney Spears at the 2003 VMAs. She wore white from top to bottom, starting with a corseted little white dress, featuring tiered lace for a skirt. Both her arms and legs were covered in lace—a skintight bolero wrapped around her shoulders to fingerless gloves. Stark white tights peeked through her ankle-strap sandals.

Ice Spice's blueprint was the wedding-gown-turned-mini Spears wore on-stage with Madonna and Christina Aguilera. The trio performed Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and "Hollywood" with Spears and Aguilera dressed as brides, famously sharing kisses with a tuxedo-clad Madonna.

Similar to Ice Spice's look, Spears's bodice was corseted with a sweetheart balconette neckline. The mini skirt included peek-a-boo lace beneath the thigh-length hem. Turns out, Spears actually drew inspiration from Madonna's 1984 VMAs look: a deconstructed wedding dress.

It wouldn't be a proper Madonna tribute without a fair share of pearls. The "Toxic" singer layered various strings of pearls atop cross-shaped pendants. Fast forward 20 years, Ice Spice followed her lead with chainlink diamonds instead of pearls.

Back to Ice Spice. Perhaps her most viral moment at the 2023 VMAs happened inside New Jersey's Prudential Center. Ice Spice sat next to Swift, who'd walked the carpet mere minutes before in a black Reputation-coded Versace gown.

After winning the Best New Artist title, the 25-year-old swapped her Dolce & Gabbana for a sheer tulle gown. Interlaced silver grommets stretched from the plunging top to a sheer floor-length skirt.

This seating arrangement wasn't a kismet coincidence—Swift and Ice Spice collaborated on a "Karma" remix just five months prior. Now, the two are bona fide besties. They've met up at 2024's Coachella, the 2025 Super Bowl, and even on-stage at the Eras Tour.

What did they talk about, you ask? Ice Spice told Variety in Sept. 2023, "She’s so funny. We was sipping on a little something something. Just chatting, vibing.” In response, Swift revealed, "I relate to Ice in many ways, but I think her dedication and focus is what blew me away from the very start."

Another Ice Spice and Swift sighting would've been a highlight of the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet. But alas, Swifties will have to wait. Who knows? Maybe there's another Kansas City Chiefs's suite with their names on it.

<![CDATA[ Ariana Grande Ends Her MTV VMAs Red Carpet Hiatus With Stylist Law Roach and a Custom Fendi Dress ]]> There are some celebrities who are constant fixtures on the red carpet, gaining their strength from the applause and camera flashes, like Tinker Bell. Stars like Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter fall into this category—the girlies who always show up ready and willing to serve. Then there are those who only make an appearance on a lucky occasion—celebs like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, who have reached a level of fame so high, they only emerge from their palaces for the rarest of events.

Ariana Grande is among the few superstars who regularly skips red carpets, choosing to keep her mega-famous life as private as possible. But on September 7, the pop star made a special exception for the 2025 MTV VMAs. She walked the red carpet on Sunday night beside her beloved stylist, Law Roach. The longtime VMAs attendee made her grand entrance after five years of no-shows, showing up arm-in-arm with her outfit's curator and dressed in custom Fendi.

Grande wore a polka dot column dress with a bustier neckline and a flouncy blush peplum detail. She added a matching bow in her slicked-back ponytail—a detail that was also found on the lapel of Roach's ruby-embellished suit. According to a press release from the brand, the singer's look was "inspired by a dress worn by Silvia Venturini in the 1980s."

The "Eternal Sunshine" singer skipped statement jewels. Instead, she opted for a few sparkly rings and a pair of glimmering studs from Swarovski.

This year, Grande is nominated for Best Pop Artist, Video of the Year, Best Pop, Best Longform Video, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects for her song “Brighter Days Ahead.” However Moon Person trophies she takes home, her presence alone is an unexpected win.

<![CDATA[ Sabrina Carpenter's Lace Naked Dress on the 2025 MTV VMAs Red Carpet Earns an Early Round of Applause ]]> No one could've predicted Sabrina Carpenter would compete in another award cycle this soon after Short n' Sweet. (Not even me, an OG Carpenter.) But here she is, in her red carpet outfit at the 2025 MTV VMAs, representing Man's Best Friend.

Two weeks after her seventh studio album dropped, Carpenter hit the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet (her first since the Man's Best Friend era began). The Grammy winner is up for eight nominations, including Best Album for Short n' Sweet and Video of the Year for "Manchild." So, it's only right she teamed up with Jared Ellner again, the same stylist behind the record's controversial cover.

An hour before the first Moon Person was presented, Carpenter posed for photographers in a sheer long-sleeve naked dress. As I suspected, Valentino custom-made the look just for Carpenter. It was covered in sequined ruby lace from the turtleneck to the floor-grazing hem. A nude under-bust corset peeked through the illusion mesh. Sky-high platforms, also in red, added some height to the 5'2" pop star's look. A lavender boa draped around her wrists. Red and purple is an unexpected color combination for Carpenter, given her penchant for '60s-inspired pastels. Nonetheless, it's a move applauded by Marie Claire editors.

Sabrina strayed from her signature color palette—in the best way, of course. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Carpenter's gown fulfilled the sparkle quota tenfold, so she kept her jewelry to a minimum. She borrowed diamond drop earrings and a matching ring from Tiffany & Co., which peeked out occasionally. According to the label, the single sparkler on her right hand features over ten carats.

Carpenter is returning to the VMAs, both as a guest and a performer, after taking home her first Moon Person last year. ICYMI, everyone from Doechii to Taylor Swift rooted for her as she accepted the Song of the Year award for "Espresso."

She thanked her fans, family, and "cats and dogs at home watching" in a vintage Bob Mackie gown, originally worn by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars. Ellner and L.A. boutique, Tab Vintage, ensured it looked good as new, from the scalloped neckline to the tiny train. The entire strapless style was hand-beaded with pearls and crystals, hence its opalescent sheen. An over-$200,000 diamond necklace from De Beers featured the same gemstones.

Historically, the VMAs are a costume change-friendly zone—see Lady Gaga's 2013 "Applause" performance for proof. Of course Carpenter followed Gaga's lead, swapping Bob Mackie for Victoria's Secret to sing "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso."

Carpenter shined in a barely-there bodysuit among a sea of dancers-turned-astronauts. It mimicked the same color palette and curvature of her Bob Mackie gown, except with shorts in place of a skintight skirt. Always on board for a jaw-dropping moment, Carpenter made out with an alien with her kiss-covered tights on full display.

Carpenter has been on the VMAs' radar since 2022, when she released her fifth studio album, Emails I Can't Send. Sure, she wasn't nominated, but she brought her fashion A-game in a floral gown from Moschino. Carpenter's black Jennifer Behr headband was equally '60s-inspired. The cutouts along her neckline and waist added that signature Sabrina Spice I know and love her for.

In 2023, Carpenter secured another invite to the VMAs. She was working on Short n' Sweet at the time, so her saucy mood impacted her red carpet attire.

Carpenter stole the show in custom Vera Wang, complete with a peek-a-boo bustier and tulle drapery hung like bed sheets. The completely sheer skirt trailed behind Carpenter as she walked.

At this rate, Carpenter will be a loyal VMAs guest for decades to come. Who knows? Maybe she'll be promoting another chart-topping album this time next year. In June, Carpenter told Rolling Stone she was inspired by artists like Dolly Parton and Linda Rondstadt. "They would release a 10-song album every year. When did we stop doing that? Writers write, they make music, and they release music." What I'm hearing is Carpenter wants to follow their lead. A girl can dream.

<![CDATA[ Doja Cat Brings Drama to the 2025 MTV VMAs in a Bedazzled Balmain Dress and Butter Yellow Pleaser Heels ]]> Doja Cat is my favorite celebrity on any given red carpet for one reason and one reason only—the drama. Whether she's at the Met Gala or the Oscars, the singer brings her sartorial A-game every single time. It's the MTV VMAs where she really thrives: Doja is her Doja-est self atop that iconic red carpet.

This is the event where she embraces her wildest, most salacious fashion urges—and the 2025 VMAs were more of the same energy. For this year's show, Doja Cat showed up in yet another jaw-dropping, eye-bulging, breath-catching look, right on schedule.

She took the step-and-repeat in a Balmain runway look from 2024. Embracing 1980s glamour, the pop star sported a pastel checked mini dress with a low, low neckline. The number was encrusted with intricate fuchsia crystallization.

Leaning into the theatrics of it all, Doja went with an overlarge '80s-stlye blow-out and novelty accessories. She carried a jewel-covered lipstick clutch (which matched her cherry red lip and long coffin nails) and slipped into a pair of butter yellow pleaser heels. The final touch were a pair of diamond-encrusted Chopard earrings that dangled to her shoulders.

Though the look was dramatic on all accounts, it was uncharacteristically demure. In 2023, for example, the "Paint the Town Red" singer went nearly-naked—a theme amongst many of her red carpet looks styled by Brett Alan Nelson. For that particular VMAs appearance, she wore a sheer dress made from cobweb-inspired thread.

She always brings the drama—and I love her for it.

<![CDATA[ The Most Memorable 2025 MTV VMAs Red Carpet Looks Hit the High Notes ]]> There wasn't a shortage of places to spot celebrities on Sunday, September 7. But the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted at New York's UBS Arena, had the US Open Men's Final and the Toronto Film Festival beat for the most memorable red carpet fashion.

It's a time-honored tradition for music's biggest names to push the envelope with their VMAs red carpet style. This isn't the arena for polite speeches and demure gowns, after all. Accepting a "Moon Person" trophy is a venue for daring cut-outs, jarring prints, and jaw-dropping risks. Last year, Taylor Swift shut down the carpet in Dior tartan and Chappell Roan channeled Joan of Arc in full chainmail, while Lisa poured herself into a Mugler corset gown and Halsey tapped the Versace archive. If there's a dress code, it's be your loudest, most adventurous self.

Hours before the 2025 MTV VMAs broadcast began, stars got a head-start to rank on Marie Claire's annual list of the most memorable looks. Doja Cat arrived ahead of her performance in Chopard jewels and '80s-inspired Balmain, and Katseye's six members coordinated in lingerie-like mini dresses by Dolce & Gabbana. Sabrina Carpenter switched up her red carpet script in a custom Valentino naked dress, while Tyla, Latto, and Ice Spice sourced vintage from Chanel, Versace, and Ralph Lauren, respectively. The biggest surprise of all came from Lady Gaga, who skipped the MTV VMAs red carpet to head straight for her Artist of the Year acceptance speech in a gothic Marc Jacobs look.

Even without Taylor Swift's red carpet RSVP, it was a night full of impressive vintage pulls and gravity-defying proportions. Ahead, catch up on the most noteworthy MTV VMAs red carpet fashion, live from New York.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga had a perfect excuse for skipping the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet: She had a concert to perform at Madison Square Garden. So the singer headed straight for her seat, where she'd stand up to accept the Artist of the Year award in a gothic Marc Jacobs Fall 2025 look styled by Hunter Clem. The tiers of black rosettes and coordinating headpiece could have come straight from the set of Wednesday Season 2—or her Mayhem Ball tour.

Sabrina Carpenter

Fresh off the release of Man's Best Friend, Sabrina Carpenter was the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet's best arrival in a custom Valentino naked dress. (At least, in this fashion editor's opinion.) Her unexpected fall color combination, styled by Jared Ellner, made an otherwise standard VMAs lace dress feel anything but.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat was a harlequin pin-up for her 2025 VMAs appearance. (Image credit: Getty Images)

News that Doja Cat would perform at the 2025 MTV VMAs guaranteed a set list with head-turning outfits to match. But first, the star and her stylist, Brett Alan Nelson, collaborated on a harlequin Balmain mini dress for the red carpet, sourced from the label's Pre-Fall 2024 collection. Teeing up her '80s-inspired new musical era (Prince is an influence cited in the New York Times), she coordinated the dress's pink accents with megawatt fuchsia gemstones from Chopard's Haute Joaillerie Collection–plus, piece-y bangs and curls Dolly Parton would approve.

Ariana Grande and Law Roach

Surprise! Ariana Grande and Law Roach were the 2025 MTV VMAs best-dressed stylist-and-muse couple. Roach dressed the Wicked: For Good star in custom polka dots by Fendi, paired with Swarovski crystals and a playful coordinating hair bow. Meanwhile, the image architect accented his black suit with a polka-dot tie of his own.

Latto

Latto teamed up with the vintage experts at Timeless Vixen for a look that won the gold: an archival Gianni Versace gown featuring an asymmetric strap and a tiered skirt. The dress had originally debuted as Look 53 on the Fall 1994 runway, courtesy of supermodel Linda Evangelista.

Tyla

In 2024, Tyla told Marie Claire her outfits always have to leave room to dance and move. More than a year later, she's keeping her promise at the 2025 MTV VMAs in an ultra-mini tweed dress and heaps of gold jewelry by Pandora. The dress's source? A 1993 Chanel runway, sourced by stylist Ron Hartleben.

Ice Spice

The last time we saw Ice Spice at the MTV VMAs, she was wearing her signature red curls and a corseted white mini dress. A lot has changed since then, including her beauty beat. For the 2025 ceremony, she debuted a pink, Pamela Anderson-inspired up-do alongside a vintage Ralph Lauren runway look sourced from Raffe Vintage.

Ciara

Comfort and MTV VMAs exaggeration weren't exclusive in Ciara's 2025 red carpet look by Schiaparelli. She amped up a fall classic, the quarter-zip sweatshirt, in the form of a knit mini dress with an asymmetric train.

Justine Skye

Gilded silver gowns are a red carpet mainstay, it's true. But Justine Skye VMA-ified her take by Dsquared2 with a side-slit that went all the way up to her hip bone.

Yeah, Glo! GloRilla's arrival on the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet came with a plaid mini dress by Helen Anthony, layered over a coordinating jacket and schoolgirl Mary Janes.

FKA Twigs

Listen up: FKA Twigs made a surprise appearance at the 2025 MTV VMAs, and her dystopian burgundy two-piece wasn't even the best part. Zoom in, and see how her brands are sculpted to resemble a set of headphones. Now that's a take on red carpet method dressing I haven't seen yet.

Leading lady María Zardoya ushered her indie-pop band, The Marías, into their first MTV VMAs red carpet with help from a major credit for the whole group: Valentino.

Tate McRae

"Sports Car" singer Tate McRae prepped for her performance—and potential wins in four categories—with one of her signature twists on a two-piece look. This time, she and stylist Brett Alan Nelson tapped custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin for a white mesh sheath over a white bikini-like set.

Katseye

First, girl-group Katseye set the internet alight in their Gap ad campaign. Now, all six members are attending their first MTV VMAs in Dolce & Gabbana outfits that let Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae each have her moment—a blazer and exposed bra here, metallic fringe there—while sticking to a united color palette.

Summer Walker

Was Summer Walker tipping her furry hat to Rihanna with this 2025 MTV VMAs look, or Pamela Anderson? She didn't say so, but the oversize topper couldn't help but remind me of a similarly fluffy accessory Ri chose for her trip to the 2024 Fashion Awards. It's also reminiscent of the extra-large pink fur hat Pamela Anderson chose for the 1999 ceremony. Homage or no, it's the night's standout hair accessory.

It seems The Hunting Wives inspired co-stars Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, because both were dressed to kill in metallics at the 2025 VMAs red carpet.

Something tells me a "Toxic"-era Britney Spears would love Zara Larsson's 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet look. The strategically-placed beaded hibiscus flowers and periwinkle overlay feel so typically 2003.

<![CDATA[ Jennifer Lopez Brings Back the Parachute Pants Trend With a Sold-Out Dior Book Bag ]]> Whether she's performing onstage or shopping on a day off, Jennifer Lopez's style is a constant source of inspiration. During a weekend outing with her child, Emme, and Ben Affleck's son Samuel, Lopez paired a sold-out Christian Dior book bag from the designer's 2022 collection with parachute pants.

Spotted browsing in Balenciaga in Beverly Hills, Lopez brought back summer 2024's celebrity-beloved parachute pants trend. The "Get Right" singer opted for a pair of Free People To the Sky Parachute Pants, which retailed for $78 but have sadly sold out.

In 2024, everyone from Emily Ratajkowski to Zendaya and Jennifer Lawrence showed love for the parachute pants trend, which appears to be resurfacing just in time for fall 2025.

Lopez styled her parachute pants with another sold-out item: a Christian Dior jute book bag from 2022. Although the actress's exact tote is only available on re-sale sites, Christian Dior's iconic book bag remains available in a plethora of designs.

The Marry Me star accessorized her parachute pants with a cropped long-sleeved white blouse and a pair of $199 FEMME LA's Gianni Suede Mule in Desnuda.

In an interview with El Pais, Lopez got candid about her split from Ben Affleck, and revealed what she shared with her twins—Emme and Max—about the breakup. "I had a really tough year," the Maid in Manhattan star told the outlet. "Unexpected things happened."

Lopez continued, "And so, I read a lot of books. I did a lot of self-introspection. I did meditation. I prayed a lot." Sharing what she told her kids about the split, Lopez explained, "I said, 'I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you're going to see that I'll come out the other side stronger and better.' I promised them that and I did it."

From her double-leather Taekwondos to her red and white Adidas Originals Tokyo Sneakers—which she paired with a $7,500 outfit—the Oscar-winning actress has repeatedly proven just how attached she is to the sportswear brand. In a solo outing on Sept. 5, Lawrence showed, once again, that Adidas reigns supreme when it comes to the sneakers in her closet.

Photographed walking in New York City, Lawrence could be seen wearing La Ligne's $225 Jenny Mid-Rise Drawstring Jeans, featuring a wide-leg and a puddle-hem. She paired the jeans with a The Row Tori T-Shirt in Cotton, retailing for $520.

For footwear, the Joy star chose a pair of crisp white Adidas Originals Superstar II Sneakers, featuring the brand's iconic stripes. At just $100, Lawrence's sneakers are not only affordable but functional and on-trend.

Additional accessories included a pair of Heaven Mayhem's Sloane Black Sunglasses featuring brown tinted lenses—which retail for $190—and a vintage Fendi Mamma Baguette in burgundy corduroy fabric.

For jewelry, Lawrence selected a $675 Sophie Buhai Constellation Necklace in Onyx, a $3,200 FoundRae Pause Internal Compass Medium Medallion Garnet with Annex Link, and the brand's $11,350 18K Yellow Gold Heavy Open Belcher Chain.

As usual, the No Hard Feelings star managed to combine an exquisite selection of high-low items for the perfect day-off outfit.

<![CDATA[ Hailey Bieber Pairs Her Little Black Halter Dress With a $4,300 Saint Laurent Bag and Peep-Toe Mules ]]> After channeling Madonna in vintage Gucci by Tom Ford earlier this week, Hailey Bieber switched up her style for a night out with husband Justin Bieber. To celebrate the release of Justin's new album, SWAG II, the Rhode founder wore head-to-toe Saint Laurent, including a sleek, lace mini dress.

Photographed leaving The Twenty Two in New York, Hailey opted for a black Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello lace-detail mini halter dress, featuring floral lace around the neckline. She accessorized the dress with the label's $4,300 Icare Hobo Bag in Quilted Nappa. For footwear, the beauty mogul chose a pair of Saint Laurent Daisy Mules in Satin Crepe, which retail for $1,100 and feature rhinestone detailing and a kitten heel.

The model completed her look with a pair of black sunglasses.

In contrast with Hailey's little black dress, Justin wore a baggy print T-shirt, loose-fitting pants, and purple sneakers.

The model previously opened up about her husband's very different style choices. "He may want to wear baggy sweats to dinner, and I might want to wear a tiny little dress just because that's how I'm feeling," Hailey told GQ. "We can't sit there and be like, 'So I'm going to wear this and you're going to wear this.'"

Although Hailey's exact Saint Laurent mini dress has become difficult to track down, similar lingerie-inspired styles are available to shop online.

<![CDATA[ Blake Lively Styles a Sequin Chanel Flap Bag With Christian Louboutin Knee-High Lace-Up Boots ]]> Blake Lively has stayed out of the spotlight throughout the summer, hopefully soaking up the sun somewhere idyllic. On Sept. 5, 2025, the Gossip Girl icon returned to work with an appearance in New York City. As usual, Lively's style didn't disappoint, with the actress pairing an enviable Chanel bag with a pair of knee-high lace-up boots from Christian Louboutin.

The It Ends With Us actress attended a Glossy Pop NYC event at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she joined a group of her peers to discuss working in the beauty industry. Lively, of course, launched her haircare line, Blake Brown, in 2024.

For the occasion, the actress and producer wore a tailored brown jacket with a matching knee-length pleated skirt from Huishan Zhang's Resort '26 collection, and a sheer crocheted top adorned with floral crystals.

Lively accessorized her outfit with a pair of dramatic Christian Louboutin boots, which were laced up to her knees. The cherry on the top of her outfit was a patchwork sequin Chanel Flap Bag from the fashion house's Spring 2024 collection.

Everyone from Kaia Gerber to Jennifer Lopez has shown their love for Chanel's classic Flap Bag in recent months, meaning Lively's outfit is right on time.

In an interview with Harper's BAZAAR, Lively opened up about how she styles her looks, saying, "I do a fitting and try on a bunch of different outfits, and then I think, 'Okay, well, how can I tell a bit of a story with these outfits?' Because I like to have some sort of consistency or a narrative."

She continued, "It just helps me wrap my head around the workload. If I try to make every outfit special, that's too hard. So if I can get a bit of a through line, just in my own head, then that helps."

<![CDATA[ Taylor Swift Skipped the Themed WAG Outfit for Travis Kelce's First Chiefs Game of the Season ]]> Despite committing to a lifetime with Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift apparently couldn't commit to the 12 hour flight from Los Angeles to São Paolo, Brazil (and frankly, who could blame her). Though it comes a mere week and a half after they announced their engagement, the pop star was nowhere to be found at her fiancé's first game of the season. Kelce took the field for the first time in 2025 to play the Los Angeles Chargers at Arena Corinthians stadium in São Paolo, Brazil.

Fans looking forward to an inaugural game day look must wait just a bit longer. Even so, Taylor Swift's game day style has made a 180-degree shift since her first trip to Arrowhead Stadium in 2023—thanks to stylist stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer. At the beginning of their relationship, Swift turned up in the stands alongside Kelce's mom, Donna, in a pointelle Dôen tank top, cut-off jean shorts, and a New Era Chiefs windbreaker.

Throughout her first season as a Chiefs WAG, she was loyal to a high-low playbook. She'd pair a Hill House Home pleated skirt with Prada boots at one game, then a '47 team T-shirt with Reformation loafers at the next. Vintage Chiefs crewneck sweatshirts and jackets often topped her game-day outfits, alongside a stack of Kelce-themed diamond jewelry.

By the time Taylor Swift stomped back to the stands for the 2025 Super Bowl in thigh-high boots, her WAG style had fully pivoted in a loud luxury direction. Head-to-toe Chanel and Louis Vuitton outfits replaced her casual fan gear. Vivienne Westwood, Versace, and Stella McCartney also supplied Chiefs-red suits and faux fur coats. Her team spirit jewelry even took a turn for the expensive, via Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, and Cartier.

By the 2024-2025 season, Swift had traded her accessible layers for full looks by Louis Vuitton and Chanel. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Taylor Swift's bridal style era began right before the official start of football season. Joining Travis Kelce for a date to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats vs. University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football game, she styled something new (a white Ralph Lauren sweater vest) and with something blue (a Celine bag and Balenciaga skirt). They couldn't quite pull focus from her diamond engagement ring, custom designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.

Given her conspicuous absence from 2025's inaugural game, it's anyone's guess as to whether Swift will make an appearance at any of this season's big events—namely, the upcoming VMAs. Fans may be in for a long wait until her massive old mine cut diamond is seen again.

<![CDATA[ These 6 Undiscovered Couture Trends Are a Shortcut to Opulent Fall Fashion ]]> Mother Nature has always been, and will always be, an inspiring muse for fashion—a crashing wave transforms into layers of blue chiffon; a sunrise becomes an orange-to-blue beaded gradient. The Fall 2025 runways clearly drew inspiration from the natural world, as seen with Prada's Sable faux furs and polar bear-printed slip dresses at Acne Studios. A few months later, the Fall 2025 Couture season followed suit by taking a cue from nature, specifically highlighting the splendors of a lush, blooming garden.

The clearest sign that top fashion designers drew inspiration from fresh gardens was the variety of floral prints and vibrant greens. Chanel, for example, showcased its signature white camellia rosettes, while also adding more colorful, eclectic marigolds and peonies embroidered with sequins. Other designers looked beyond flowers and focused on animals; In Maria Grazia Chiuri's final showing at Dior, the prolific creative director used wispy threads and feathers to mimic the plumage of birds that feed on fallen seeds and sweet nectar.

The couture collections aren't as practical as what you see on a ready-to-wear runway, and a bespoke $10,000 gown covered in silk rosettes isn't as straightforward an investment as, say, a new pair of fall boots. But they celebrate craftsmanship and fashion's ability to inspire, and there's no reason you can't approach your everyday wardrobe with a similar admiration for artistry. Ahead, discover the Fall 2025 Couture's garden-inspired trends, with insights on incorporating botanical, natural touches into your daily style.

Wildflower Beds

Ranging from more subtle statements of colorful floral prints and micro-sized beaded flowers to extreme sculptural orchid motifs and three-dimensional tableaux, maximal depictions of flowers were showcased across the Haute Couture runways. While admittedly not as grand as Rahul Mishra's Gustav Klimt's wildflower landscapes, or even Chanel's fresh-picked embroidery, a floral beaded bag pays homage to the craft-heavy couture ethos.

White Blooms

fall 2025 couture trend of minimal white flowers

While some designers created a vibrant, kaleidoscopic garden, others honed in only on a white palette, using rose prints (Robert Wun), camellia appliques (Chanel), and sweet daisy lace (Dior) to craft a more minimal look. A delicate ballet flat with a crisp, front-centered rosette or a white floral slip skirt can achieve a similar romantic, neutral effect.

Chlorophyll

Lush, verdant greens appeared throughout the Fall 2025 Couture season. Glenn Martens' impressive couture debut at Maison Margiela featured a grass-green gown with ruffles resembling leaves on a stem. Meanwhile, the ever-innovative Ronald Van Der Kemp crafted a fringed mini dress with rigid boning that closely resembled palm fronds—J.Crew's ribbed peridot sweater creates a similar natural effect.

Sun Rays

sun rays fall 2025 couture trends

Iris Van Herpen, Rami Al-Ali , Schiaparelli, Zuhair Murad, Rahul Mishra. (Image credit: Launchmetrics)

As a more abstract interpretation, yet still closely related to what makes a well-kept, joyful garden flourish, a few designers looked upwards for inspiration: the sun. Schiaparelli and Rahul Mishra's interpretations were literal, showing as sunbursts and rays. Meanwhile, Zuhair Murad opted for sunny color palettes, which you can see as couture's response to the next color trend after muted butter yellow.

Creepy Crawlers

creepy crawlers fall 2025 couture trend

ArdAzAei, Schiaparelli, Maison Margiela, Viktor & Rolf, Iris Van Herpen, Robert Wun. (Image credit: Launchmetrics)

In shimmering textiles resembling iridescent beetles, featuring literal wing motifs, curved inchworm silhouettes, and more, Fall 2025 Couture remembered the creepy crawlers that sustain (and sometimes damage) garden life. If bugs don't bother you, consider a butterfly print or moth motif on a button-down shirt or boxy tee. Otherwise, draw inspiration from insect anatomy with a sharply tailored blazer or bug-eyed trendy sunglasses.

Avian Friends

avian friends, fall 2025 couture trend

Feathers fluttered down both the ready-to-wear and couture runways, but the latter shows embraced more fantastical, elaborate, and sometimes avant-garde designs. Ronald Van der Kemp balanced realistic bird figurines on shoulders, while Viktor & Rolf transformed models into feather-trimmed creations you'd see in a fairy tale (or nightmare, depending on your subconscious). A feather-fringed maxi dress or flouncy handbag will add a similar bird-inspired touch to your wardrobe.

<![CDATA[ I’m Going All In on Fall’s Boho Trend During Anthropologie’s Must-Shop Sale ]]> From suede jackets to brown sneakers, there are a ton of fall trends I can't wait to test drive this season. However, the one I'm most looking forward to wearing has to be fall's boho trend. There's something effortlessly cool about the free-spirited aesthetic. With '70s-inspired styles in mind, I set out to add more autumnal boho finds to my closet, so naturally, Anthropologie is the one retailer I knew I had to check out.

Luckily for my budget, Anthropologie is throwing a sale, which includes 30 percent off on hundreds of pieces (fall shoes are included, too!). After scouring the sale selection, my online cart is full to the brim with cool boho styles. There are transitional dresses that work for the office and beyond, as well as breezy tops to pair with trendy denim and trendy sweaters to layer with. I even found some suede shoes to pair seamlessly with my new boho outfits.

The only downside to this Anthropologie sale? It only lasts for three days. You have from now through September 7 to shop the sale, so to make things easier for you, I've rounded up all of the boho finds I'm crushing on below. Just be sure to act fast to score your favorites before the sale ends.

<![CDATA[ Ashley Olsen Styles The Row's Trench Coat as a Minimalist Fall Dress ]]> Obviously, The Row played a part in Ashley Olsen's grand return to Hollywood.

Every September, the YES Scholars Gala hosts a star-studded affair. But on Sept. 4, the organization outdid itself: an Olsen twin RSVP'ed.

For her first red carpet walk since 2021, the creative director emerged from her The Row-filled closet with a trench-coat-turned-dress. The $6,550 Ryo Coat was made of sand-washed cupro toile: a vegan, silk-like fabric, stretching from the flat collar to the ankle-length hem. Its only closure was a single button around her neck, which remained undone.

What did she layer underneath, you ask? That remains a mystery. Rumor has it, Olsen styled the khaki-colored coat all night, even while Shaboozy performed his chart-topping single, "A Bar Song." Knowing the minimalist, however, she likely wore it with elevated basics. Perhaps Zoë Kravitz's Sibem cashmere sweater or the Irene Skirt in Jennifer Lawrence's closet.

Olsen's visible accessories likely hailed from the New York label, too. As if she didn't look autumnal enough, she paired pointy pumps with an itty-bitty brown clutch. Though, the woven purse was hidden beside her fashion photographer mother-in-law, Lisa Eisner.

Mary-Kate Olsen didn't join her twin at the fundraiser, which supports "high-potential students from low-income communities in Los Angeles, New York City, and rural North Carolina." She secured box seats at the 2025 US Open. Instead, their younger sister Elizabeth Olsen held down the family fort.

Stylist Elizabeth Stewart dressed the Wandavision star in a little black dress, courtesy of Rodarte Fall/Winter 2022. Though its lace and silk made it slightly more elevated, both sisters matched each other's October-ready energy.

Once the red carpet closed, the siblings joined each other inside the Bel-Air Country Club. The behind-the-scenes photo showcased Ashley's gold drop earrings, which were otherwise hidden during her step-and-repeat.

Both on and off-duty, Ashley Olsen has become synonymous with statement outerwear. In fact, at the 2021 CFDA Awards (her most recent red carpet) she wore a similar floor-length coat. It was November, so it was a heavier wool option from The Row's catalog.

While out and about, she also uses oversize jackets to avoid the paparazzi, shielding her face with thick lapels. Maybe that's why The Row jackets are some of the trickiest to track down—they're all in the Olsen twins's closets.

<![CDATA[ The Outfit Formula That’s Keeping Summer Alive in September ]]>

Here's the Thing

Okay, here’s the thing. I deeply love summer. Like, all of it. The heatwaves, the sandwiches at the beach, the stickiness of an NYC summer day, the humidity that lingers into the night like a goose-down blanket—pump it directly into my veins. So, knowing how much I love the season, you can only imagine my deep disdain for those among us who try to usher fall in and summer out a full month before its actual departure. What’s the rush? I need us all to pump the brakes. So, with that in mind, I’m still talking about and continuing my summer shenanigans until at least September 22nd or when the temp dips under 75 degrees for a week straight—whichever comes first. So here I am, with a pocketful of sunshine and sand, to make my case for why cookout style is the ultimate end-of-summer style icon.

Crystal Anderson on the grill

"From South Carolina roots to Brooklyn rooftops: I’ve inherited the “Grill Daddy” title—and the fits to match." (Image credit: Crystal Anderson)

Picture this: culottes, fisherman sandals (with socks!), a waist bag, a nearly knee-length checkered or patterned collared shirt, a wide-brimmed hat, and likely a wrist and fingers full of gold jewelry. If you didn’t have photo evidence, you’d think I was talking about anyone hanging out in Dime’s Square right now, but no, I’m talking about my Uncle Burnett, the coolest man I’ve ever met. "The Black Uncle" at the BBQ archetype. The above outfit was his quintessential BBQ look. True perfection wrapped in a cloud of smoke from whatever grill he was standing in front of in that summer moment.

Crystal Anderson grilling outfit

"Culottes, fisherman sandals (with socks), a checkered shirt grazing the knees, gold on every finger. You’d swear it’s Dime Square—except it’s my Uncle Burnett, the original BBQ style icon." (Image credit: Courtesy of Crystal Anderson)

As a deeply Southern Carolina girl, I have become the de facto “Grill Daddy” among my Brooklyn friend group. Naturally, I’ve looked to my uncle and every Black uncle who has ever graced a grill to model my grilling ‘fits. I'm happy and honored to report that it’s the same recipe with a few added ingredients: Keep the long shorts, but shorten them a few inches (or, if you’re feeling wild, swap them for a skirt!). Transform the shirt into a long scarf that doubles as a tube top. Keep the gold jewelry, but add some colorful Roxanne Assouline bracelets and a John Hardy Naga ring for a little razzle-dazzle. I know some people think that the BBQ outfit shouldn’t be too precious because it will probably get covered in sauce, smoke, and charcoal bits, but I’ve never seen my uncle (or any) at the grill who wasn’t cleaner than a fresh dinner plate, so who am I to break the trend?

Grilling Outfit

"Summer isn’t over yet—whether you’re on grill duty or just bringing the ice, this look still works. My Uncle Burnette’s BBQ uniform might be impossible to top (those shoes!), but we can get close." (Image credit: Crystal Anderson)

Whether you're manning the grill or are the angel that shows up with ice, I urge you to spend the rest of the summer (there's still plenty of time) easily pulling this look off. Will it match the perfection of my uncle? Probably not, since his shoes are just too cool to fill, but we can try and come close!

<![CDATA[ Hailey Bieber's Madonna-Coded Teal and Black Color Combination Will Start an '80s Style Revival ]]> I hope Hailey Bieber snoozed her alarm this morning. After yesterday's flared trouser marathon, she deserved to sleep in.

ICYMI, the supermodel (and her stylist, Dani Michelle) blessed the internet with eight designer looks to celebrate Rhode's move to Sephora. Clad in The Row, Bieber began her mini press tour at 8 a.m., debuting new outfits by the hour. Most New Yorkers clocked out around 6 p.m., but not her. After hours, she kicked things up a notch in an unexpected, '80s-inspired color combination: teal and black.

She tapped the silk trend from top to bottom, starting with a blue-green button-down. Turns out, the fitted blouse, in all its satin sheen glory, is vintage Gucci by Tom Ford. At pub time, the 22-year-old top retailed for $1,495 on 1stDibs.

Hailey Bieber tapped into the '80s maximalism trend in an unexpected silk color combo

Bieber's bottoms were just as shiny, except in black. They were slightly more fitted than the flared trousers she started her day in. These hugged her legs closely, from the low-rise waist to straight-leg hems. The Row's Park Tote, Ruby Stella hoop earrings, and Giant Vintage sunglasses modernized her throwback set.

The green-and-black color story hailed straight from the '80s, beloved by ateliers like Christian Lacroix and Ungaro back in the day. It reminded me of a 1995 Madonna look currently on my fashion mood board.

At the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards, the "Vogue" singer posed with a shiny Moon Person trophy and coordinating Gucci by Tom Ford set. Her silky blue button-down and black trousers bared a shocking resemblance to Bieber's look. Madonna accessorized with a peek-a-boo mesh bra, a horsebit belt, and patent pumps instead of Bieber's peep-toe mules.

Minutes before the clock struck midnight, Bieber delivered her final look of the day. She channeled the '80s once again—not the decade's pop icons, but rock-and-rollers.

Bieber styled a leather jacket as a top, cinching its thick belt around her waist. It looked sleek alongside a satin slip skirt, also in black. A black top-handle bag and slingback Saint Laurent heels finished the monochrome theme.

According to TheRealReal's 2025 Resale Report, '80s maximalism is on the rise. Think: high-contrast color palettes, statement shoulders, slinky fabrics, and geometric patterns. Basically any Madonna look is the blueprint, even for Bieber.

Who knows? Maybe she'll revive another Madonna moment at the 2025 MTV VMAs this weekend. Justin Bieber is nominated for Best Pop Artist, so a red carpet walk from the couple isn't out of the question.

<![CDATA[ Issa Rae Steps Up the Adidas Sambas Renaissance in a Matching Fall Groutfit ]]> Don't be fooled by her stiletto-clad step-and-repeats: Issa Rae is a sneakerhead at heart. Unlike Puma ballet sneaker loyalist Rihanna, Rae bounces from one brand to another. Currently, she's in her Adidas era.

On Sept. 4, the Insecure actor arrived at The Drew Barrymore Show in Sambas straight out of Sophie Turner's closet. She chose the classic Cloud White/Core Black colorway, featuring stark white uppers, black stripes, and tinted gum soles. Gray suede toe boxes gave away their Sambas status.

The nostalgic, '70s-era shoes are more low-profile than other chunky models in her collection. In the 2010s, Rae was known to street style-ify a running shoe. This time, they were the perfect pick to elevate her groutfit, made up of an acid-wash T-shirt and matching jeans. Each oversize leg flared out at the sides, giving her denim a barreled appearance.

Rae's purse took her pre-interview outfit to four-figure status. She chose the top-handle Mayfair bag from Aspinal of London, which retails for $1,110. Though it's available in pink, blue, brown, and ivory, Rae chose the noir croc-embossed version. Even the buckle closure and chainlink strap were matte black. She detached the crossbody, carrying it from the built-in strap.

Rae's latest look comes on the heels of a sneaker-heavy summer. She spent most of the season trekking through London in Converse high-tops. Her black-and-white All-Star 70s hail from a 2018 collection with Fear of God Essentials. Similar to her latest look, they matched the rest of her off-duty separates, including an oversize hoodie and cargo pants.

Adidas Sambas were the It sneaker of summer 2022, but unlike other trends, they've remained a celebrity staple since. This summer alone, Turner, Olivia Rodrigo, Zoë Kravitz, and Anne Hathaway dug them out of storage. Thanks to Rae, Samba season is staying strong this fall, too.

<![CDATA[ Taylor Swift Officially Skips Her 2025 MTV VMAs Red Carpet Outfit ]]> Taylor Swift has so much going on at the moment with The Life of a Showgirl, a memorable MTV VMAs red carpet look just had to wait.

The 2025 MTV VMAs had seemed like the perfect place for Taylor Swift to kick off her upcoming album's promotion cycle. She's attended the annual awards show a grand total of ten times, and is tied with Beyoncé for the most Moon Person trophies won by any artist. This year, she's also nominated for Artist of the Year, and her close friends Sabrina Carpenter and Ice Spice were set to attend. All signs pointed to a glamorous VMAs red carpet collaboration with her longtime stylist, Joseph Cassell Falconer, on September 7.

Hopes of seeing Swift's VMAs fashion evolution continue in vintage Bob Mackie feathers and rhinestones were dashed two days before the ceremony at New York's UBS Area, however. E! News reported that Swift was planning to skip the ceremony. And by the time Ariana Grande, Law Roach, and Doja Cat had walked the step-and-repeat, it was confirmed: Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs run was going on hiatus.

At the 2024 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift arrived in tartan Dior. (Image credit: Getty Images)

There are plenty of other events that could have take up space on Swift's fashion calendar. Her fiancé, Travis Kelce, was set to open his NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Swift has been devoted to attending as many of his games as possible—and showing her team spirit in loud luxury fashion with Kelce-coded jewelry to match. If the star and her new diamond engagement ring made the journey to Brazil, it might have been too tight a squeeze to fly back to New York in time for the VMAs red carpet. But that theory was also proven false: Swift skipped the Chiefs opener, and an associated fan outfit.

Reports have also surfaced that Swift's close friend Selena Gomez may marry Benny Blanco this weekend. Should those rumors prove to be true, there's no doubt the Grammy winner would rearrange her travel to support her friend's love story.

One thing is for certain at press time: This year's list of the most memorable MTV VMAs outfits will miss Taylor Swift's red carpet fashion. When she attends, she shows a more playful and adventurous side of her personal style. Last year, it manifested in the form of a custom Dior tartan set adapted from the house's Resort 2026 collection. Later, she changed into a Monse dress with a sequin UFO on the front—a reference to her Tortured Poets Department track "Down Bad.

Previous trips to the MTV VMAs have been accompanied by multiple outfit changes and major revelations. At the 2023 VMAs, Swift stacked a Versace safety pin gown and an EB denim mini. The year before that, she spent the night in a crystal-laden Oscar de la Renta mini—and announced the imminent release of her album Midnights.

With or without the MTV VMAs, a fresh Taylor Swift style era is on the horizon. She unveiled her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast last month with a fresh aesthetic to match. So far, the album's visuals include Las Vegas-inspired pieces by The Blonds, Area, and Bob Mackie, all heavy on spotlight-friendly rhinestones and towering feather headdresses.

Taylor Swift's next album is due out October 3. Knowing her she'll channel her "Mastermind" tendencies into a first red carpet for the era that leaves fans speechless.

<![CDATA[ Pink Ballet Sneakers Are Still a Center Stage Fall Trend—7 Pairs Rihanna's Convincing Me to Shop ]]> As August turned into September, I was starting to feel a shopping itch I thought only a pair of brown suede sneakers could scratch. The hint of changing leaves and cooling temperatures had me racing to Marie Claire's fall 2025 sneaker trend report for a neutral pair and all sorts of cozy beige sweaters to go with it. That is, until Rihanna's ballet sneakers stopped me in my tracks.

On September 4, Rihanna paused her streak of rugby shirts and baggy jeans for the sort of outfit Sandy Liang or Sofia Coppola would approve. She matched what appeared to be a pink, plaid Loewe dress to peony sneakerinas by Puma. From just behind her dress, what looked like a coordinating pink top-handle bag just barely peeked out. It was decidedly anti-fall, but it spoke to me.

Rihanna's collection of Puma sneakers is unmatched, considering her longstanding Fenty design partnership with the brand. These pink sneakerinas spoke to me like no other pair has. Her all-pink outfit was sartorial sunshine on a busy weekday: unapologetically romantic and just plain fun. And while Rihanna decided to stick with a monochrome palette, I could just as easily imagine these pink ballet sneakers underneath wide-leg trousers or a pair of slouchy Gap jeans. The baby pink shade is just light enough to blend with my favorite fall neutrals, too.

Then again, if anyone could make me style a pink ballet sneaker with an entirely coordinating look, it would be Rihanna. Ahead, I've picked out seven more pairs I'm ready to jeté into this fall.

<![CDATA[ Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles Assemble Matching T-Shirt and Jeans Outfits ]]> Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles are still in the honeymoon stage, but their street style? Not so much. Judging by their matching off-duty outfits, you'd think they're married, co-dog parents, and celebrating a milestone anniversary.

After sunset, it's easier for a blossoming celebrity couple to dodge the paparazzi—hence their late night, Sept. 3 outing in New York's Brooklyn. Less than 24 hours later, Kravitz and Styles went daytime-official with their relationship (or rather—rumored friends-with-benefits-ship). On Sept. 4, fashion's new favorite duo roamed around Brooklyn in complementary jeans and T-shirt outfits—whether it was an accident or not, the world will never know.

First up: Kravitz. She looked every bit a native New Yorker in a navy blue crop top and black jeans. Kravitz went one shade darker than yesterday's indigo denim. This time, her '90s-coded bottoms blended Straight and Slim with Low-Slung and Slouchy, two fall denim trends spotted by Marie Claire's fashion features editor, Emma Childs. They bared a shocking resemblance to Fall 2025 pairs seen in Balenciaga, Blumarine, and Phillip Plein shows, but knowing Kravitz, they could be vintage.

Zoë Kravitz was spotted with Harry Styles again—this time in matching T-shirts and jeans

Zoë and Harry walked hand-in-hand looking every bit the '90s rom-com couple. (Image credit: Backgrid)

The only piece missing from Kravitz's New Yorker uniform? A fits-everything purse. She carried only the essentials: her keys. Maybe Styles secured the rest in his bright yellow tote as any good partner should.

The Caught Stealing actor only accessorized with Khaite x Oliver Peoples sunglasses and ballet flats. Shockingly, her look was noticeably The Row-less. Instead, she slipped on Mansur Gavriel's Dream Ballerinas—the $395 slippers she wore on repeat during her Caught Stealing press tour. Now, they're a staple in her off-screen rotation, too.

Blink and you'll miss the 53-carat sparkler around Kravitz's neck. Like any red carpet walk, she frosted herself in Jessica McCormack jewels, the same designer behind Zendaya's engagement ring.

As a brand ambassador, she has first dibs on McCormack's catalog—she's especially fond of her button-back motif. Kravitz re-wore a $1,390,000 necklace made up of round brilliant-cut diamonds. So far, it's made 10 repeat appearances, mostly on the street style scene. Talk about quiet luxury.

Now, a moment for Styles. Kravitz undeniably filled the jewelry quota for both of them, so the Grammy winner went casual in a black long-sleeve. He layered navy blue sweater atop his shoulders—a foolproof style hack for fall's fluctuating temperatures.

He paired '70s-inspired mid-wash jeans with leather loafers. Kravitz is clearly leaving a mark on Styles's closet: His shoes were perfectly worn in, similar to Kravitz's The Row $990 Canal loafers.

And just like that, Styles and Kravitz's aesthetics have synced, proving they're a match made in fashion heaven. If the couple goals are this strong just weeks in, I can't wait to see them in a month. Their relationship is clearly moving fast. At this rate, they'll be hand-in-hand at the 2025 Emmy Awards, where Kravitz is nominated for The Studio.

<![CDATA[ Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs Red Carpet Fashion Evolution, From Her Debut to 'Showgirl' Era ]]> At this point, I wouldn't be shocked if the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards erected a statue in Taylor Swift's honor. She's attended the award show 10 times, adding 30 "Moon Person" trophies to her shelves. Her MTV VMAs red carpet fashion evolution alone deserves a figurine or two.

Question is, which era would the statue depict? Perhaps the Fearless-coded mini dress she wore for her debut MTV VMAs in 2008. Then there's the one-shoulder Kaufman gown from 2009, which marked her first win. Or the multicolor Lover Versace blazer dress Swift chose in 2019.

I propose the "Bejeweled" Oscar de la Renta mini she and stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer selected in 2022. The crystal-covered cocktail dress mimicked the jewel-filled bathtub in Reputation's "Look What You Made Me Do" music video, sending Swifties spiraling (myself included). Everyone and their mother wondered if the 2017 album's re-release was next. Instead, she announced her tenth studio record, Midnights, was mere weeks away from dropping. Turns out, Swift's designer jewels weren't a Reputation Easter egg, but a "Bejeweled" teaser.

Swift clearly has a soft spot for the MTV VMAs—she wouldn't announce a new album just anywhere. Whether or not she's nominated, the pop star brings her fashion A-game each year, with help from Dior, Versace, Oscar de la Renta, and even Lorraine Schwartz, the jeweler behind her now-signature "T" necklace.

I suspected Swift would return to the 2025 VMAs on September 7, dressed in Showgirl-inspired feathers galore. She's up for Artist of the Year for the fifth year in a row, after all. However, two days before the show, E! News reported Swift will be noticeably absent from the VIP section. Fans will sadly have to wait for her first Life of a Showgirl red carpet walk. In the meantime, relive Swift's best MTV VMAs looks ahead. They make up for the lack of statue.

2008: Taylor Swift's Debut Kaufman Dress

In '08, Taylor looked oh-so cute in a flirty mini dress. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Weeks before Fearless dropped, Swift secured her first invite to the MTV VMAs. She wore a fit-and-flare Kaufman dress for the occasion, plus metallic sandals and a striking pendant necklace.

Minutes later, she returned to the red carpet in classic Fearless gold. The mini dress was covered top-to-bottom in sequins, like most of her concert costumes at the time. Ballet flats were an adorable, albeit surprising shoe for the A-list affair.

2009: Taylor Swift's One-Shoulder Kaufman Gown

Before a viral on-stage interaction, Taylor sparkled on the red carpet. (Image credit: Getty Images)

That on-stage encounter with Kanye West in '09 made VMAs history. In true Swift form, it didn't stop her from serving a look. She chose another sequin style with Kaufman tags, this time featuring illusion panels and an open back. Most Swifties agree this one-shoulder gown is engraved in their memories.

Half-way through the show, Swift was all smiles with her newly-won Moon Person in tow. She swapped sequins for a classic red mini dress, which matched her bold lipstick to a T.

In 2010, the nominee snuck past the red carpet circuit straight to the stage. A barefoot Swift performed her Speak Now song, "Innocent," in a bustier-style Dolce & Gabbana mini dress.

2012: Taylor Swift's Little White J. Mendel Suit

By September 2012, Swift stood firmly in her Red era, leading fans to believe she'd arrive in a crimson-colored gown. Instead, she chose a J. Mendel Spring 2012 suit set, proving not even the most devoted Swiftie can predict her next move.

Once again, the VMAs saved a performance slot for Swift. She chose "We Are Never Getting Back Together" from her 16-track album (22 if you count the deluxe edition). She took center stage in a striped red-and-white T-shirt, Forever21 shorts, and custom Christian Louboutin Oxfords.

2013: Taylor Swift's Hervé Léger Gown

In 2013, Swift wasn't actively promoting an album, so she had free range with her red carpet attire. She showcased her glamorous side in a plunging Hervé Léger gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

2014: Taylor Swift's Maria Katrantzou Romper

Once the 1989 era rolled around, Swift fully embraced her pop star persona—especially at the VMAs. She was impossible to miss in a custom Maria Katrantzou romper. Its alphabet-embroidered exterior incited fans to search for a hidden message. Alas, there was none. It debuted in the Greek designer's Resort 2015 collection.

It was only right for Swift to sing "Shake It Off" in a fringed two-piece. The crystal-covered skirt set sparkled among a sea of men in tuxedos, making for an award-worthy performance.

2015: Taylor Swift's Ashish Two-Piece

The next year, Swift channeled her "Bad Blood" music video character in a houndstooth Ashish set. Her slicked-down side bang and smokey eyes went on to inspire thousands of Swifties.

2019: Taylor Swift's Versace Blazer Dress

Her Versace blazer-turned-dress was surprisingly colorful for her. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Though Swift's VMAs hiatus stretched for four long years, her grand return was well worth the wait. She teamed up with Donatella Versace herself to reimagine the prints seen on the Spring 2020 Men's runway. Her shoulder-padded blazer dress and thigh-high boots made for a fan-favorite outfit.

2022: Taylor Swift's Oscar de la Renta Mini Dress

Before gifting fans the Midnights news, Swift modeled every angle of her intricate Oscar de la Renta dress. Shimmery strands draped from her halter neck to her thigh-length hem, as if she stepped out of Reputation's rhinestone-filled bathtub. Christian Louboutin, the designer behind her Eras Tour footwear, gifted her bejeweled sandals.

2023: Taylor Swift's Versace Gown

Reviving the Reputation (Taylor's Version) rumors, Swift arrived at the 2023 ceremony in a black Versace gown with gold accents. Even her Jimmy Choo shoes got the monochrome memo.

Ahead of the star-studded after-party, Swift changed into a denim mini dress. The EB Denim design, complete with a corset bodice and a pleated skirt, sold out immediately. Two years later, the $495 piece struggles to stay in stock. In June, she styled its black counterpart for a private "Shake It Off" performance.

2024: Taylor Swift's Dior Tartan

Taylor's tartan Dior will be hard to beat this year. (Image credit: Getty Images)

A tartan-clad Swift was not on my bingo card in 2024. It was the most fashion-forward surprise, custom-made for her by Dior's Maria Grazia Chiuri. Its zip-up bodice, peek-a-boo shorts, and high-low skirt drew inspiration from the Resort 2025 line. The choker and cutout gloves were Swift's own additions.

Swift's second acceptance speech called for an outfit change. She went from tartan to a UFO tapestry print from Monse. The illustration was hand-beaded from the cloudy skyline to the extra-terrestrial ship. Her over-the-knee leather boots from Stuart Weitzman returned for round two.

<![CDATA[ A-Listers Are Swapping Summer 2025's Flip-Flops for These Fall-Proof Shoes ]]> I'm in denial: Flip-flops season can't possibly be over. Over the past three months, I've become codependent with my black leather thongs, much like Kendall Jenner with The Row's Dune Sandals.

To my dismay, open-toe season's expiration date is fast approaching in my neck of the woods. Now, I'm wondering which fall shoe trends can possibly replace my favorite slip-ons. As Marie Claire's resident celebrity savant, my first instinct was to channel my inner Zoë Kravitz.

But alas, it's not that easy on my budget. Instead of grabbing The Row's nearest ballet flats, I consulted stylist Olivia Wayman—an expert who also tries to wear flip-flops as long as possible—to be my fashion fairy godmother. To no surprise, the Substack writer behind Olivia's Shopping Diary came loaded with recommendations.

Olivia Wayman wears leather The Row City flip-flops

Oliva Wayman's perfectly-curated Instagram is flooded with flip-flops. (Image credit: @oliviasshoppingdiary)

Wayman admits it'll be hard for her to surrender her "dinner flip-flops." (Her Olsen twin-inspired phrase, not mine.) Instead, she'll transfer to another toe-forward, yet fall-friendly, style. "If I'm not wearing flip-flops, I'm wearing mesh ballet flats." Both Wayman and I are especially fond of Bella Hadid's Dear Frances pair.

Jennifer Lawrence's slippers are another Wayman-approved successor. Extra points if you wear them with silky pajamas like the star. "I actually bought The Row Hugo Clogs by mistake, thinking I was getting the toeless option," Wayman says. "However, the suede mules have become seriously acquainted with my feet."

She suggests I switch into stiletto mules after a long, slipper-clad day—preferably a pair like Zoë Kravitz's Manolo Blahniks. We're on the same wavelength there: I called the 2.5" Jada Heels a "worthy successor for the flip-flop trend" in late August.

Zoë Kravitz promoted Caught Stealing in the Manolo Blahnik Jada heels

Zoë Kravitz first put the Manolo Blahnik Jadas on my radar in July. (Image credit: Getty Images)

My trusty flip-flops will be missed until 70° weather returns next summer. In the meantime, these celebrity-beloved alternates ahead will quite literally fill their shoes, and then some.

Bella Hadid's Mesh Ballet Flats

Bella Hadid wore mesh ballet flats on Instagram

If anyone can encourage me to give mesh ballet flats a go, it's Bella. (Image credit: @orebella)

If The Row's Dune Sandals had a fall-proof cousin, it'd be mesh ballet flats. Last month, Bella Hadid gave Dear Frances's Ballas a go with gingham capri pants, all in tomato girl red. The sheer uppers and sidewalls are as eye-catching as any flip-flops, without baring it all.

I recently coupled my brown peek-a-boo flats with Fall 2025's indigo denim trend and a pinstripe button-down, as Kendall Jenner would. Catch me in this exact trio all autumn long.

Lola Tung's Sneakerinas

Lola Tung wore Vivaia sneakerinas on September 2

The Summer I Turned Pretty star is on a sartorial roll. (Image credit: Getty Images)

Following Hadid's lead, Lola Tung boarded the ballet sneaker bandwagon on September 2. She chose Vivaia's viral sneakerinas: the same $159 lace-ups in Hadid's wardrobe. The silver satin along the uppers and laces added a center stage touch to her knitted 404 Studio Fall 2025 mini dress. And just like that, summer's It shoe is twirling its way into autumn's street style circuit.

Emma Stone's Ankle Boots

Emma Stone attended the Telluride Film Festival in leather Khaite ankle boots

I love early-fall boots as much as the next Gilmore Girls fan, but knee-highs? I won't touch them until the forecast hits 40° Fahrenheit. Ankle boots are more up my alley for September styling—Emma Stone's too, it seems.

At the Telluride Film Festival, the Oscar winner wore an ultra-pointy pair from Khaite. They just barely peeked out from underneath leather pants, a suede jacket, and the cord necklace trend, all set to stick around well into fall.

Lily Collins's Brown Sneakers

When in Rome, Lily Collins tapped into the brown sneaker trend with Adidas Spezials

Months before Selena Gomez got her hands on the Adidas Spezial sneakers, Lily Collins trekked around Paris and Rome in them. She paired the heightened brown sneakers with summer staples aplenty, including a straw hat, a lace-trimmed skirt, and an Hermès Birkin bag. By Labor Day weekend, they joined Gomez's closet, and now, mine. It's only a matter of time before the $110 trainers are everywhere.

Sienna Miller's Clogs

Sienna Miller was spotted in red Miu Miu clogs

Until recently, clogs had been noticeably absent from my shoe rack. Initially, I assumed these boho chic shoes had to hibernate once the "-ber" months rolled around. (You know, September, October, November, and December.) Thanks to Sienna Miller, mine will get lots of street time this season, particularly with light-wash jeans and an oversize tote bag.

Zendaya's Tabis

I have Zendaya to thank for making me a Tabi fan. (Image credit: Backgrid)

I wasn't always a freaky shoe enthusiast, but Zendaya's Tabi collection won me over years ago. Nowadays, I wear the split-toe shoes all year long—especially in fall. I've had Zendaya's post-Met Gala look, featuring Maison Margiela Tabis, on my mood board since May.

Jennifer Lawrence's Slippers

Jennifer Lawrence pulled off slippers in NYC

If J.law can wear slippers around NYC, so can I. (Image credit: Backgrid)

On the record, I wear flip-flops because they're effortlessly cool. Off the record, it's actually because they're the coziest shoes on my shelf. Turns out, Lawrence is a comfort-first fashion girl herself. This summer, she went viral for wearing slippers on the street—specifically a four-figure The Row pair.

Kendall Jenner's Peep-Toe Slides

You don't have to reveal toe cleavage to pull off peep-toe shoes. Go the more subtle route à la Jenner in The Row Milla Satin Flats, with itty-bitty slits atop each square-shaped toe box.

Zoë Kravitz's Mules

Zoë Kravitz wore peep-toe Manolo Blahnik mules on her Caught Stealing press tour

Since late July, sky-high mules have replaced the flip-flops in Kravitz's closet. The Manolo Blahnik Jadas are her favorite, hence their sold-out status. Luckily for me, the market is flooded with the flip-flop's older, more elevated sister, as I so fondly call them.

<![CDATA[ Forget a Full Wardrobe Refresh—These Two Overlooked Accessories Are My Secret to Staying Current ]]> If you read fashion magazines, you are no doubt interested in fashion, and part of that is staying current. Knowing where the silhouettes have shifted plays a key role in understanding the current fashion mood—but the secret to modern dressing isn’t always in a 30-piece wardrobe refresh or an entire reinvention of your style. I hate to keep being the arbiter of less is more; however, sometimes the smallest tweaks can be the most impactful. One of my best styling tricks, which is far more subtle, is choosing the right shoe and the right pair of glasses. These two accessories, often overlooked, are what can truly make an outfit current, polished, and let others know that you know.

My grandfather always used to say you could tell someone’s character by their shoes. What he meant was, even if the suit looks fancy, if the shoes are scuffed and uncared for, the fancy suit no longer matters. I find this resonates today, but in a slightly new form: a carefully curated outfit can be greatly skewed by the choice of shoes and glasses. Swapping out your pair of shoes or glasses for a newer, trendier style is such an easy way to immediately recalibrate a look.

For instance, style last year’s tailored coat and jeans with this year’s sleek sneaker trend, like Puma’s OG Speedcat.

And while in years past, oversized, chunky reading glasses signaled something irreverent and slightly nerdy in a good way, now is the time for bookish, sleek-looking reading glasses—a nod to ’90s fashion in the best way; minimal, slightly dainty, and extra functional.

a photo of fashion content creator Larissa Mills wearing trendy shoes and glasses

(Image credit: Courtesy of Larissa Mills)

Sunglasses have a little more flexibility these days. The black oval (worn slightly lower on the bridge of the nose), like the Selma by Corlin Eyewear, has been having its moment for a while. However, I’m also really loving the extreme opposite sunglasses trends that are hitting the scene—extra large, aviator silhouettes, colored lenses, and shield/bug style glasses are quickly becoming my go-tos.

Reinvention is always key, and it’s part of what makes fashion and getting dressed every day so much fun. Learning how to make sharper edits can make even the most familiar outfit Fashion Week-ready.

<![CDATA[ Katie Holmes's Boat Shoes Add a Preppy Twist to Fall's Silk Skirt Trend ]]> My silk skirts didn't get much street time last fall. This year, Katie Holmes is making sure I won't make the same mistake again, one dose of inspiration at a time.

Around lunchtime on September 4, Holmes soaked up the New York sunshine outside L'Artusi, an Italian hotspot in the West Village. She was photographed, to-go bag in hand, wearing the end-of-summer silk trend. (It's already been co-signed by Zoë Kravitz and Jennifer Lawrence, my favorite A-list New Yorkers.) Zoom in and you'll see her brown knee-length midi featured white polka-dots. Until now, I wasn't sure if summer's most popular pattern would stick around this fall. But,with Holmes's endorsement, it's certainly not going anywhere.

Always on board for an unexpected color combo, the Dawson's Creek star paired the slip with a sporty white-and-yellow long-sleeve.

Katie Holmes pulled off the silk slip skirt trend with boat loafer shoes and a butter yellow top

Katie Holmes fall-ified the silk and polka-dot trends with ease. (Image credit: Backgrid)

Seeing Holmes in anything but ballet flats is a rare occurrence—like spotting a Hermès Birkin-less Jennifer Lopez. This time, she swapped her signature footwear for brown penny loafers. Instead of the structured styles in Dakota Johnson, Meghan Markle, and Gigi Hadid's closets, her leather flats mimicked boat shoes. Each elongated toe box featured a monochrome bow, as most maritime silhouettes do.

Holmes was in on the silk trend as early as Nov. 2024, when mine started hibernating for the winter. Before performing in Our Town on Broadway, she styled a slinky maxi skirt with a cashmere sweater from Falconeri. Both pieces were burgundy, one of fall 2024's most sought-after shades. She accessorized with a Tod's top-handle bag. Velvet Mary Janes, courtesy of Aeyde, made her polished separates feel ultra-festive.

September is just getting started, and already, Holmes's daily rotation has taken an autumnal turn. At this rate, she'll be wearing faux fur and plaid outerwear (style director Sara Holzman's favorite fall staples) before Halloween.

<![CDATA[ Zoë Kravitz Matches Harry Styles's Energy in Fall's Indigo Denim Trend ]]> Zoë Kravitz and Austin Butler's post-press tour lives look very different. Since Caught Stealing hit theaters, Butler has been MIA, presumably resting up on the West Coast. Kravitz, on the other hand, is still out and about—except with Harry Styles by her side.

On September 3, the rumored celebrity couple hit their daily step goal walking around Brooklyn, where Kravitz currently lives. The two looked undeniably smitten in various paparazzi pics, each wearing their share of off-duty staples. Kravitz, for one, started her date-night outfit with fall's indigo denim trend, co-signed by Hailey Bieber, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Zendaya.

Fact: The Batman actor rarely wears jeans. On the off chance she does, expect to see Kravitz in pairs like these: equally baggy and low-rise. The brand behind her bottoms remains a mystery, but knowing Kravitz, she had her pick of the dark-wash denim in Louis Vuitton, Khaite, and Nili Lotan's Fall 2025 collections.

I must admit, the blurry photo makes it tricky to ID Kravitz's styles. However, a wide lens won't stop me from giving it the ol' college try. On top, I believe she layered a wool coat overtop a cotton pointelle cami, both in black. It appears to be the same $50 Cou Cou Intimates top she wore days ago, except in white.

I'd recognize the curved leather exterior of Kravitz's The Row Terrasse Bag anywhere. The $3,950 tote is her favorite for relaxed outings, hence its sold-out status.

To finish, she popped on peep-toe slides, a slightly chunkier sandal than her signature The Row Dune flip-flops. Perhaps she's experimenting with flip-flop alternatives for fall.

As an OG Styles fan (a Styler, if you will), I'd be remiss not to applaud the Grammy winner's look, too. Styles was instantly recognizable in Adidas Gazelle sneakers—his signature shoes during 2022's Love On Tour. The ivory-and-black colorway suggests they're from Bad Bunny's recent collaboration with the label.

Styles coupled them with khakis, a turmeric yellow T-shirt, and a navy blue barn jacket. (It's giving "gym teacher in the 1970s-core.") His retro mustache was the cherry on top.

The night-out in New York marks their third sighting of the summer and their first stateside. As a fan of both Kravitz and Styles, I can't help but enjoy seeing them together, whether they're friends, more than friends, or still figuring it out. In a perfect world, they'll make their coordinating style official on the 2025 Emmys red carpet, where Kravitz is nominated this year. A girl can dream.

<![CDATA[ I'm Already Shopping Fall 2025's Biggest Denim Trends at Gap and Madewell ]]> Finding a great pair of jeans is easier said than done. Along with securing the perfect fit (a beast in of itself!), I need my jeans to add something special to my transitional outfits. Thankfully, the fall denim trends at Gap and Madewell are serving up plenty of inspiration to freshen up my collection.

When I think about denim for fall, my mind immediately goes to Gap—blame it on that viral Katseye campaign, and the fact that Hailey Bieber has stepped out in Gap jeans not once, not twice, but five times in the last month. Madewell's denim is also top of mind, thanks to its wide selection of silhouettes. Between the two retailers, I can cross off every denim trend from my fall wishlist, including baggy jeans, indigo washes, and straight-leg styles.

It's the time of year I wear jeans more than anything else, so I'm updating my rotation with fresh fall trends—and I'll be heading to Gap and Madewell to do so. To see and shop the pairs currently in my online carts, keep scrolling, and say hello to your most fabulous fall outfits yet.

<![CDATA[ Jennifer Lopez's Ruffled Blouse Makes Her Hermès Birkin Bag Unexpectedly Boho ]]> Jennifer Lopez only follows a handful of brands on Instagram, Chloé being one of them. She's been a loyal fan for years, double-tapping their posts and collecting creative director Chemena Kamali's boho-chic creations.

On September 3, J.Lo styled a ruffled ivory blouse outside her L.A. office, which had Chloé's name written all over it. I suspect it's the newest addition to her Chloé-heavy closet—the ruched neckline and cascading ruffle sleeves looked straight from the store. The short-sleeve top was sheer from the bust down, as are most Chloé designs.

Its see-through chiffon revealed the high-rise waist of her wide-leg jeans. The mid-wash bottoms featured everything Lopez looks for in denim, including a shoe-accentuating long hem and zero distressing. They were equally '70s-inspired, especially when paired with sky-high velvet pumps, also from Chloé.

Leave it to Lopez to make a Hermès Birkin bag feel boho. She rarely visits her office without one of her 10 versions in tow, all of which exceed the five-figure benchmark. Usually, the top-handle silhouette serves as the cherry on top of her businesswear cake.

This time, she went with a crocodile Birkin 30. The versatile shade makes it one of her most worn handbags by far. Don't believe me? Senior news editor, Halie LeSavage's tally says so, too. Last year, Lopez's exact bag sold for $80,000, but now, it's available for $60,000.

Now, back to Chloé. The French atelier doesn't follow Lopez on IG, but they're certainly aware of her allegiance. With help from stylists Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi, she always gets first dibs on runway designs. In December 2024, she tracked down Look 35 from the Spring/Summer 2025, three months after it debuted. Similar to her September 3 blouse, the high-low dress was covered in ivory ruffles, stretching from the high neck to the bell sleeves.

Though Lopez has yet to attend a Chloé show, I have a feeling they'd roll out the red carpet for her. Who knows? Maybe she'll see the Spring 2026 runway in person on October 5. Say this five times fast: I'd love to see boho J.Lo in the front row.

<![CDATA[ Rihanna Swaps Fall Denim Trends for Baggy Ripped Jeans and a Louis Vuitton Bag ]]> Marie Claire's fall 2025 denim report tracks six rising jean styles, spanning from indigo shades to cuffed hems. Baggy, ripped denim, however, is noticeably absent from the roundup. Thanks to Rihanna, it's at least present and accounted for on the street style scene.

Rihanna first debuted her light-wash pair on September 2, complete with oversize holes in each knee. Less than 24 hours later, the pregnant star re-wore them with Balenciaga tags on full display. The sky blue style, in all its low-slung glory, appeared to be menswear slashed by Rihanna herself. Perhaps she's borrowing them from A$AP Rocky's closet. After all, it's common for the celebrity couple to share outfits. (Remember their matching ERL suits in July?)

Rihanna styled ripped light-wash jeans with a striped polo shirt and a Louis Vuitton bag

A Louis Vuitton bag hung a few inches north of her '90s denim, because no Rihanna look is complete without a hard-to-find purse. The rare Speedy Soft 30, adorned with New York-inspired bag tags, marked the "Work" singer's second repeat piece. She first sported it the day before, alongside the rugby shirt trend and the same Balenciaga jeans. Somehow, the $3,500 duffel is still available, even with her stamp of approval.

Rihanna's rewears didn't stop there. I expected Puma Speedcat sneakers to peek out from underneath her extra-long hems. She surprised me with black-and-white cap-toe heels from Chanel she also styled on September 2.

At this point, cap-toes are a staple in Rihanna's wardrobe. She started collecting Chanel's signature motif in 2009. It's unclear when she got her hands on her latest Mary Janes. I suspect they're a recent purchase.

Rihanna's not the only celebrity in her recycling era, at least this week. Also on Sept. 3, Jennifer Lawrence followed her lead by re-wearing a Deiji Studios skirt, a Dissh blazer, and a Loewe bag. Personally, this sustainable streak came at the perfect time: Seeing my favorite stars reuse what's already in their closet encourages me to do the same.

<![CDATA[ Giorgio Armani Changed Tailoring Forever—Fashion Insiders Mourn "The Maestro" ]]> A paragon of Italian fashion, the "maestro" who made power suits a wardrobe essential in the 1980s and introduced custom design to the celebrity red carpet, has left the fashion world mourning. On September 4, the Armani Group confirmed that its founder and creative director, Giorgio Armani, had died at the age of 91.

The company issued a statement saying, "Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones." "Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects."

On social media, industry insiders and stars, including supermodel Linda Evangelista, former creative director Donatella Versace, entrepreneur Martha Stewart, and actresses including Gemma Chan, Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington paid their respects to the designer known as "Il Maestro" and "the King" at the height of his powers.

Mr. Armani, as he was also called, didn't begin his design career until the mid-1970s, at the age of 40, when he decided to start his own label. Less than a decade later, he graced the cover of Time magazine, contributed to several major films' costume departments, and dressed stars like Italian legend Sophia Loren. By the 1990s, "Armani" had become a symbol of both awards season and corporate offices: career women wore Armani suits to feel powerful, while actresses and musicians relied on Armani for their biggest stage moments.

Casual observers today may take it for granted that celebrities show up to their premieres and award shows in bespoke Armani Privé gowns. It was never guaranteed that women like Viola Davis or Angelina Jolie would tackle the awards season circuit in the label. His mastery of tailoring—first perfected in slouchy suiting that migrated from menswear to womenswear—appealingly translated to custom gowns, however.

In a 2013 interview with The Telegraph, Mr. Armani explained that he was "one of the first designers to dress stars on and off screen." Before working with him, "They didn’t always have a particular style, or the dress sense to know what to wear for an occasion. I helped them feel more confident and relaxed."

As news circulated of Mr. Armani's passing, so did retrospectives on his looks for the likes of Beyoncé, Salma Hayek, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Taylor Swift.

Stylist Brad Goreski reflected on Armani's dresses for Demi Moore's awards season campaign this past winter. Her first major win for a dramatic role arrived at the 2025 Golden Globes, where she was dressed in an Armani Privé gown channeling her trophy's shine. "We were so lucky to get to wear his gorgeous Privé designs to Cannes and have custom gowns made for her for the Golden Globes and Oscars," Goreski wrote. "Thank you for the amazing memories and the pleasure of working with you."

Samantha McMillen, stylist to Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, recalled her early career working in the Armani atelier before her second act. " I could write a book about the incredible experience I had working under Signor Armani and his unparalleled team," she wrote. "Thank you for trusting me to see your vision and help dress nearly every upcoming, established and legendary personality in film, music, sport, the art world and beyond. We forged relationships I hold dear to this day and I wouldn’t be who I am today without your influence and work ethic."

A-listers sent more condolences on their profiles, with throwback photos of their favorite Armani pieces. "What a dream it was to work with Giorgio Armani! A legendary designer who offered the world so much style, elegance & grace," Reese Witherspoon wrote on Instagram. "I will be forever grateful that I got to wear so many of his beautiful gowns."

Kerry Washington recalled that Armani was the first designer to lend her a dress for her first Hollywood event. "He was always generous and kind, and the fact that someone of his stature believed in me meant the world because he was an extraordinary artist and a visionary," she wrote. "He and his family will always hold a special place in my heart, my prayers go out to them."

Giorgio Armani appeared at his last runway show earlier this year. His fingerprints are all over the 2025 Venice Film Festival red carpet, where stars including Cate Blanchett, Gemma Chan, Kaitlyn Dever, and Sadie Sink have worn a mixture of suiting and bespoke gowns from the house. In street style, his influence lives on in the resurgence of 1980s-inspired suiting and hats: a combination that first got its footing on the Armani runways the first time around.

The Armani Group has not yet announced who will succeed its industry-shaping founder. In the meantime, fashion creator @ideservecouture may have summed up the industry's feelings best in his farewell to the designer. "A man that always deserved a standing ovation," he wrote alongside a video capturing one of Mr. Armani's final bows. "Your vision and your outlook on beauty will definitely be missed."

<![CDATA[ Hailey Bieber Styles the Flared Trouser Trend Twice in Two Hours ]]> I pride myself on being an early riser. Usually, a 5:30 a.m. alarm is no match for my daily routine. But this morning, Hailey Bieber beat me to the street style scene. Further, she stepped out bright and early in the flared pants trend.

While I blissfully slept for an extra half hour, Bieber's stylist, Dani Michelle, dressed her in head-to-toe designer. Why the early-morning appearance, you ask? Rhode hits Sephora stores today, so the beauty brand's founder got a head start on her packed press schedule. Outside a Tribeca hotel, Bieber debuted her first business-y set, starting with flared black trousers. The low-rise Gucci bottoms hugged her waist and thighs, widening around her knees in true flared fashion. They featured a subtle sheen, which matched her pointy Saint Laurent slingback pumps.

Both ends of the flared spectrum had a moment earlier this summer, ranging from yoga pants to structured trousers. Jennifer Lopez wore a similar silhouette on the Office Romance set, except in ivory. Olivia Rodrigo, on the other hand, favorited a Bieber-ish pair for off-duty outings.

Bieber paired her pants with a white long-sleeve, marking her third black-and-white look of the week. Its semi-sheer fabric revealed a racerback tank top underneath. From there, her oversize Phoebe Philo clutch peeked out from beneath her arm.

Unfortunately, the $2,700 bag sold out months ago. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley got her hands on it well before Bieber, carrying it over 10 times since April 2025. It features the same triple compartment motif as Philo's Gig Bag.

Once Sephora was open for business, Bieber brought back her flared trousers for round two. She looked every bit a CEO in the same bottoms, plus the peep-toe mule trend. On top, Bieber layered a lacy bustier under a nude leather blazer.

Her closet is flooded with blazers, usually within the bulky, menswear realm. This time, her topper was surprisingly fitted. Perhaps she was inspired by the "Tailored for You" dress code at this year's Met Gala. Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendall Jenner, Laura Harrier, and Bieber all cinched the office staple on the red carpet.

At this rate, there's no telling how many looks the supermodel will serve today. Bieber and Michelle specialize in multiple outfit swaps per day (in June, they went viral for it). Should she stop at her flared trouser campaign, I'd be more than happy.

<![CDATA[ I Wear These Wardrobe Staples on a Weekly Basis—Meet My 6 Closet BFFLs ]]> Hi! My name is Rachel, and I'm the voice and closet behind @clothesarefriends. I started posting my outfits on TikTok and Instagram in 2021, after I retired from corporate America at the ripe age of 28. Fast forward five years, and I'm back in my nine-to-five and still posting my personal style online. I decided I'd rather be chained to a desk than chained to a budget.

All jokes aside, my love for fashion extends way beyond the screen I share it through, and I'm excited to chat monthly about that love of clothes and everything else.

First impressions are important, so I thought it's best for my editorial debut to start out strong by sharing my BFFLs with you, aka my Best Finds For Life. These are the basics that every closet needs. They are my favorite items in all categories of my wardrobe, so buckle up and let's get to know each other.

A Classic Button Down, With a Sizing Twist

Rachel Whitehouse wears a white button down, jeans, and gucci heels in mirror selfie

Everyone needs a good button-down shirt, in my opinion. Fit is everything, and size matters, meaning don't be afraid to size up. I find the men's section usually has a better selection and is more affordable. Don't let gender define your purchases—my motto as ever—but especially when it comes to your shirts.

The Staple White T-Shirt

Rachel Whitehouse wears white t-shirt, green button down, and boots

Everyone talks about finding the perfect white T-shirt, but I truly believe I've mastered this topic. First things first, your tee should be 100 percent cotton. It should also have a reinforced collar, so it doesn't droop or misshape in the laundry, and it should be the right weight. Without further ado, please meet the Leset Margo T-Shirt. This shirt checks all the boxes, and I'm willing to die on this hill. While Leset's is the only white T-shirt I own, I found other options that are (nearly) as good.

100 Percent Cotton Denim

Rachel Whitehouse wears button down shirt, jeans, flats in mirror selfie

It's a rare time when my outfit isn't rooted in some form of denim. I gravitate towards a straight leg, but I also love a barrel-leg jean. All of my denim has one thing in common: It's 100 percent cotton because it just gets better with age.

Levi's jeans have such a special place in my heart; I think they are the top denim brand. The Dad Jean, specifically in black, has taken a permanent spot in my wardrobe. Meanwhile, the Tibi Sid Jean is the ultimate barrel jean and, dare I say, the designer I saw do it first. I love everything Tibi does, but I think it's especially great at proportions and adding a twist to a classic. I wear these jeans on repeat, and I tend to style them the most in my fall outfits.

Classic Leather Belt

Rachel Whitehouse looking at phone near car wearing black tank top, jeans, belt, and sunglasses

Admittedly, I am partial to The Row for its leather goods, and that doesn't change when it comes to belts. However, prior to giving in to The Row's classic leather belt, I found some that stood up to my rose-colored The Row glasses.

Multi(purse)pose Bags

If you follow me, you know my everyday purse changes, well, every day. But if I had to pick a few, these would be them because they're functional, reliable, and obviously good-looking. I have three main bags that I keep on hand.

The Bottega Veneta Pouch is the bag that has literally been through every stage of my life. From accompanying me to a black-tie wedding to hittin' the floor of a club, she's been through it, and we're stronger than ever. Then there's the Loewe Puzzle Bag, which was my gateway purchase and the reason I fell in love with the brand. This is my favorite bag to travel with because I can throw it on as a crossbody or drop the strap and carry it to dinner as an underarm clutch—she can do it all. Finally, I love my Louis Vuitton Soft Speedy Bag. The detachable shoulder strap changes everything, and sadly, you can't buy it on its own.

Shoes That Ground Me

Comfort and style are equally important to me with all things, especially shoes. It’s kind of like being hangry—if I’m uncomfortable, my mood is ruined until I’m comfy again (real mature, I know, but here we are). The Margaux ballet flats are a perfect blend of both. They’re so simple, but when you put them on, you can immediately feel their quality. There is zero break in time, and they literally have the sole of a pillow. Also, they pair with any outfit and come in so many colorways! That’s a win/win for me. The loafers and clogs below check all of my boxes, too.

I could go on for days about my favorite items, but let me leave you with this: Quality wardrobes take time to build, but similarly to friendships, the best ones last a lifetime. Make purchases based on how an item makes you feel when you put it on, don't get hung up on the constructs of sizing when we have too many other things to be worried about. Fabric matters, so read the label. Treat your clothes like you treat your friends, and they'll stick around for life.

<![CDATA[ Coach's New Fall Bags Speak to Elle Fanning's Vintage-Loving Heart ]]> Fall 2025's bag trends were always going to appeal to Elle Fanning. Her appreciation for a '60s-inspired padlock bag or a demure tea-length dress didn't just start when she and stylist Samantha McMillen began collaborating for the red carpet. It's an obsession that stretches back to her earliest fashion memories. "As a kid I always loved old-fashioned, vintage-inspired looks," she tells Marie Claire.

Now, she's channeling her lifelong appreciation for throwback pieces in Coach's Fall 2025 campaign. In a video directed by Jovan Todorović, Fanning stars as a young woman who finds inspiration in an encounter with a childhood version of herself—and a shared pursuit for a new Tabby bag. Accompanying photographs by Elaine Constantine find Fanning swinging through trees and frolicking with youthful abandon, all with fall's best bag styles in tow: a suede update to the viral Brooklyn bag here, a retro bucket bag with an elongated strap there.

If the stakes in her campaign came true, she has innate sense for what her past self would want to shop first: "I know I would have been drawn to the oversized Kisslock bag—classic and timeless," she says.

The actress makes a compelling case for styling up other bag silhouettes, too. One portrait shows the A Complete Unknown star testing a cream Tabby bag with a flowing chiffon dress; in another, she tries on a sculpted leather jacket and a chocolate brown shoulder bag for size.

Vintage-leaning fall bags aren't all Fanning, a longtime Coach ambassador, found to love while on-set. She also explored a new side of her style in a high-contrast, thoroughly modern outfit.

"I wore an outfit with a pink little bow dress and baggy trousers and it was the perfect mix of feminine and edgy," she says. "I feel like you get a little bit of both with Coach and it really resonates to me."

By the time the shoot wrapped, Fanning had learned more than the names of the styles she wants to carry (like the Alter Ego bag made from upcycled Tabby scraps) or the archival references behind Coach's latest releases. "This campaign reminded me how much I love fashion that’s both chic and conscious," she says. It's a timeless combination that Elle Fannings past, present, and future can appreciate.

<![CDATA[ Jennifer Lawrence Steps Up Fall 2025's Pointed Flats Trend With Her Favorite Loewe Bag ]]> Celebrities' summer-to-fall transitional outfits usually over-index on autumn trends. With the flip of the calendar to September 1, A-listers trade shorts and flip-flops for indigo denim and loafers. Jennifer Lawrence is the sole exception. If it wasn't for the Sept. 3 timestamp, I'd assume her latest look debuted sometime this summer.

Near her New York townhouse, Lawrence turned hailing a cab into another unofficial step-and-repeat. It all started with fall's pointed-toe shoe trend, in the form of The Row's Satin Claudettes. This $1,090 pair featured the sidewalls and heels of ballet flats, plus a pointy pump's toe.

Ballerinas beloved by Kaia Gerber and Hailey Bieber are known for their rounded slipper-like toes. Outside Fall 2025 shows, however, fashion girls made a case for stiletto-shaped counterparts, eventually catching Lawrence's eye in May. What's more, her approval makes the Claudettes one of The Row's rarest finds.

Jennifer Lawrence was spotted in NYC wearing Fall 2025's pointed ballet flats trend and a Loewe bag

Jennifer Lawrence's look immediately earned a spot on my moodboard. (Image credit: Backgrid)

The rest of her outfit was made up of rewears, including a Deiji Studios cotton poplin midi skirt. A white T-shirt covered its drop waist. There was a slight chill in the city air, so Lawrence layered a relaxed Dissh blazer atop her shoulders.

Lawrence broke up her black-and-white theme with Loewe's Medium Squeeze Bag in the Oak colorway. The ruched, open-top hobo bag has been an A-list favorite since its Sept. 2023 launch. Emily Ratajkowski, Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Ayo Edebiri, and Sofia Richie Grainge have all been spotted with the $5,200 purse in tow.

It's been noticeably absent from Lawrence's arm since Aug. 2023, when then-creative director Jonathan Anderson gave her pre-release access. Now, Anderson has taken the reins at Dior, but the Loewe Squeeze's reign lives on.

In true J.Law form, she wore a near-replica of her cool-girl set just weeks ago. On August 19, the Hunger Games star coupled the same Dissh jacket and Deiji Studios skirt together alongside another white tee. Her Manolo Blahnik ballet flats bared a striking resemblance to her The Row shoes, minus the four-figure price tag.

Instead of the Loewe Squeeze, Lawrence endorsed the bowling bag's comeback with a Maria Grazia Chiuri-era Dior bag, covered in the designer's signature oblique jacquard. Even her Heaven Mayhem sunglasses matched the shades hanging from her T-shirt.

Judging by her Rihanna-level vintage bag collection, Lawrence's first instinct is to shop secondhand. On the off chance she invests in a new style, whether it be Anderson's Dior Dracula tote or The Row's Claudettes, trust she'll get her money's worth. (In record time, no less.)

<![CDATA[ Taylor Swift Tells Her Love Story Through the Most Intentional Jewelry Brands ]]> On August 26, an unexpected spotlight shone down on New York City-based jeweler Kindred Lubeck. Travis Kelce had tapped her independent brand, Artifex Fine Jewelry, to design Taylor Swift's diamond engagement ring. It didn't take long after the happy couple shared their relationship status update with their combined 289.9 million Instagram followers for Lubeck's responsibly-sourced gemstones and intricately engraved bands to make international news. Within 24 hours, her own Instagram following increased by several hundred thousand. Jewelry experts cast their bets for the ring's carat weight and final valuation. (It's somewhere between $750,000 and over $1.5 million, depending on who you ask.) And observers who'd only casually glanced at Taylor Swift's jewelry stack prior were wondering: How was this designer chosen?

Selecting a relatively small, independent label for a major pop star's engagement ring might have seemed like a curveball. Swift and her stylist, Joseph Cassell Falconer, regularly frost her Chiefs games and red carpet outfits with five-figure pieces from Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and Louis Vuitton, after all. Sarah Chapelle, the fashion journalist and best-selling author of Taylor Swift Style, who chronicles the Grammy winner's wardrobe across her Instagram account and newsletter, says scrolling through the designer's feed is evidence of her alignment with Swift's aesthetic. "Just as Taylor’s songs are written in a distinct artistic voice, Kindred’s jewelry tells an unmistakable story. Her delicate, art deco-leaning style aligns seamlessly with Taylor," she explains.

But the choice goes deeper than matching Swift's wardrobe on the outside. To really know Taylor Swift's style is to understand her "TNT" jewelry (short for "Taylor and Travis") has largely come from independent, women-led brands. For one of the most significant pieces she could own, she would follow the same intentional script she's used for other bejeweled purchases since Kelce came into the picture.

Zoom in on outfits from Taylor Swift's turn in the Arrowhead Stadium stands or her trips to Chez Margaux and Zero Bond in New York City, and names like Jacquie Aiche and FoundRae will surface as frequently as the LVMH megabrands. The Last Line, led by Shelley Gibbs Sanders, designed a ruby red heart earring she wore to the 2024 Super Bowl. Golfer Michelle Wie West's collaboration with the diamond brand Wove resulted in a diamond-encrusted tennis bracelet that Swift would wear to several Chiefs games (and to a Stanley Cup finals game).

This, Chapelle says, is a pattern her engagement ring continues. "Much like Taylor’s first season of NFL fashion that often spotlighted small, local, and female-owned labels, Travis’s decision to commission an independent female jeweler over a more established brand felt equally intentional, personal, and in line with their values as a couple."

Initial necklaces and stacking rings have made their way into Taylor Swift tracks like "Call It What You Want" and "The Tortured Poets Department." You can imagine the pieces she's referencing with a quick look at her recent jewelry stacks. "Unlike her red carpet jewelry—which is typically bigger, bolder, cocktail-style pieces—her everyday jewelry is often minimal, layer-able, and repeatable," Chapelle says. "You can tell she really loves something because she’ll wear it all the time."

Lately, that something is "T" letter jewelry, taking the form of a custom Lorraine Schwartz leg-chain-turned-necklace or a Jacquie Aiche pavé diamond huggie earring. The former has been worn three times: First at the 2025 Grammys, then at the 2025 Super Bowl, and finally, at birthday dinner for Brittany Mahomes. The latter accompanied Swift throughout her Eras Tour—and took on more significance as her relationship unfolded offstage. As far as romantic gestures go, these shared initial pieces are more under-the-radar than her new ring—but no less special.

Women-led brands from BonBonWhims to Anita Somayaji have contributed one-off tennis bracelets and Zodiac charms to Swift's jewelry stack. Meanwhile, Beth Hutchens's FoundRae is one of the most frequent in Taylor Swift's sentimental repertoire. The label even joined her engagement ring announcement outfit in the form of a "T" heart earring.

"The brand weaves a lot of mythological and classical symbols into their pieces," Chapelle notes. "There’s something artistic and poetic to their jewelry that I imagine appeals to Taylor."

For the designers, landing in her sentimental stack isn't about the relationship their client is commemorating, necessarily. "On a personal level, it’s meaningful to me because I believe she works hard to empower women and that is something I also strive to do through FoundRae," says Beth Hutchens of FoundRae. "I feel truly flattered that she has chosen pieces from our collection. Beyond that, her influence has introduced FoundRae to a much wider audience, reaching people who might not otherwise be familiar with what we do."

Every time Taylor Swift chooses an independent jeweler to make a "TNT" reference, she's likely boosting their business by sheer exposure. It's a power many other influential women have and recognize: Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has also acknowledged that she dresses with intention in the hope of elevating women-founded brands in the public eye.

One of Chapelle's favorite repeats to spot is Swift's opal heart charm by Foundrae, retailing for $2,250. It first turned up on a Taylor and Travis date in June, then re-appeared during her surprise trip to Tight End University later that month. "Taylor has worn many opal pieces over the years," Chapelle says. (Those include another Foundrae charm combining an opal and a pearl, called the "Forever and Always." )

Lately, Chapelle notes the stone has seemed even more significant relative to Swift's other jewelry: "Many wonder if it's taken on a more personal meaning, as opal is Travis's birthstone."

On the New Heights podcast, Kelce recently revealed he's been listening to The Life of a Showgirl, Swift's upcoming twelfth album, ahead of its October 3 release. His favorite track is third on the album, and a clear reference to the jewelry she's been wearing on repeat: "Opalite."

If the track eventually comes with a music video and a Via Carota celebratory dinner, pay close attention to Swift's jewelry stack. Chances are, she'll pull out her favorite Foundrae charm again for the occasion: wearing her heart on her sleeve, and re-introducing her fans to a designer she loves while she's at it.

<![CDATA[ Sabrina Carpenter Sources a Vintage French Lingerie Label for Her Zane Lowe Interview ]]> For me, the best portion of a pop star's album rollout is their interview with New Zealand-based DJ Zane Lowe. (Besides the actual record's release, of course.) Over the years, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and more have appeared on Lowe's show, each time with album insight and a stellar press outfit in tow.

Sabrina Carpenter joined the ranks on September 3, mere days after her seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend, dropped. The hour-long tell-all immediately made waves for director Jennifer Juniper Stratford's 1967-era set. (She's also the brain behind the "Manchild" and "Tears" music videos.) Even in black-and-white, Carpenter shined in a vintage Chantal Thomass skirt set, circa Spring/Summer 1995.

Stylist Jared Ellner helped Carpenter track down the off-the-shoulder top and a mini skirt. As seen on the runway, the two-piece is mostly black with ivory lace embroidery. Rumor has it, they sourced it from French secondhand label, Emerieu. Though it debuted four years before Carpenter was born, it felt right up her alley—especially the cutouts surrounding a plunging bodice. The hem of her thigh-length skirt featured the same lace trim, except with ruffles.

Unless you're a deep-cut fashion person, Chantal Thomass isn't a household name. From the '70s through the '90s, the French designer dominated the Paris fashion scene and is credited with the rise of lingerie worn as outerwear. Given Carpenter's affinity for risqué attire, it's no wonder Thomass's designs made it into her Man's Best Friend promo trail.

Another Thomass piece popped up for a split second in the now-viral "Manchild" music video. Carpenter pulled off a pink gingham bra while sitting a tub with pigs. It was a hidden gem in Last Platinum Vintage, one of her favorite L.A. boutiques for one-of-a-kind finds.

Thomass stepped away from her eponymous lingerie label in 2018. However, her under-turned-outer-garments are experiencing a second coming at the hands of Carpenter and Dua Lipa.

In Jan. 2025, Lipa "danced her way into the new year" in a navy fur-covered bra from Chantal Thomass Fall/Winter 1993. She paired it with the matching ankle-length coat, of course.

As a longtime brand enthusiast, I'm overjoyed that the It-girl crowd found Chantal Thomass. Her designs are tricky to track down—but once a stylist does, it's always a look book-worthy moment. A skirt set-clad Carpenter is proof.
